BM question?
Ok my surgery was on Feb 5th and I am having problems having a BM. Is anyone else having this problem? I have only went one time since my surgery and I had to be admitted to the hospital for that. So they could get me going. My bowels seem to be working I have some gas. But nothing like everyone talks about. I'm on stool softner but still nothing. The first time I went 2 weeks before going to the ER in pain. Now its been 6 days. I feel like crap all the time. I was suppose to go back to work on wednesday but backed out because I feel so bad. Next question should I call my doctor tomorrow and tell them whats going on? Or should I just keep dealing with it myself? I thought I would try a fleets tonight, but thats what put me in the ER last time. I'm a little scared. Am I ever going to have a BM on my own again? Just wondering if anyone else is going through this?

Hi Charlotte!
I would definitely call your doctor first and foremost. They will be able to give you a better idea of what could be happening. Also, it's always good to open the lines of communication w/ your doctor about anything new you are doing or medicines you are taking, etc. I dealt with this same problem for the first 5 months after having this surgery. I have literally tried everything. I am almost sure your doctor will suggest Senna Lax tablets. I personally tried those and they didn't help me at all. Have you tried Milk of Magnesia? Some doctors are okay with this and some say its a
- so you better check with your doctor first. Each time I've tried it I've always had good results. Of course you don't want to become dependent on this. The only thing that works for me now is 3 stool softeners a day plus drinking 100+ oz. of water a day. So maybe its your fluid intake that has made things so difficult for you. Some people actually say just add some fiber to your diet ( I done the chewables ). Another thing is time. Eventually your "system" will adapt to the new eating habits and you won't have problems like these.
Definitely check with your doctor first!
I hope this helps,

Charlotte,
I am the queen of poopy problems, I swear! I have to take 6-colace at night and 4 in the morning just to have a normal bowl movement. I also take Fiber Choice, 3 of them 2x's a day.
Doc Steiner gave me some glycolax (also related to mirolax, I believe) and while it works, I don't like the "not-clean" feeling it gives me. Although it has helped me a lot in the past.
You have my sympathies; you really do. This has caused me some big time problems; I can't even begin to explain.
Take care--
Dee
