Low Iron

I got the results back from my bloodwork it shows my iron level to be 23. I talked to the Nurse and she will get back to me on what they want do. What do you think they will do. Is my iron low enough that they will have to give me IV.

Mark if that is the result from a criq test than yeah you are low. When I donate at Hoxworth my criq test results are like 47. NOw in the hospital I am not sure what test they used to determine my blood count but I was 5.3 out of a normal 13. not good and my iron level was very low. VERY LOW! My surgeon ordered a unit of Iron to be given to me in the IV. It took about 7 hours to drain into me. BUt it helped and everyone noticed my color coming back. I would ask your doc if it would be possible to do an IV to get you back up to speed on your iron. Maybe as an outpatient... than afterwards between your food and maye a multi w/iron you should do good unless you have an underlaying anemic condition.
