Shrinking Liver

Hello everyone, I'm new here. My doctor is Dr. Oldham, I am scheduled for surgery on 03/14/07. I started a high protien diet on Friday 03/02/07 in order to shrink my liver. I am very worried that my liver will be not be shrunk enough for surgery, that they will get in there and have to stop. Any suggestions or stories to help me out? I do not know how much you weigh or how fatty your liver is, but my doctor could palpate my liver when I was lying down and said it was enlarged. I started the high protein diet 2 weeks pre-op and didn't do wonderfully, cheated here and there, and the last 4 days did a full liquid dietfor good measure, but must have been good enough, because at my last per-op appointment, he could no longer feel my liver. I had my RNY done laporscopically and there were no complications. My advice would be to follow the diet as best you can, stay away from high fat/high cholesterol/sugaryfoods...I think you'll do okay.

Before my surgery I cheated a bit here and there as well. (it was over the holidays!) But at the last minute I did go full-force on the low carb diet, and apparently it worked for me too, because I was done laparoscopically. My advice is, do your best for the next 5-6 days and limit your carbs to less than 30.

They are my doctors and I was on the diet religously for a month and then they cancelled my surgery, they made it for 3 weeks later and I didnt follow the diet because I was frustrated. I made it through fine and I think you will to. All he requires is a one week diet and your on it so relax. Lesa
