Hi Tracey! Have you tried Isopure from GNC? It's more of a sports drink consistency rather than a milk based shake. Even if you didn't like it pre-surgery, you might like it now. It's amazing how tastes change after surgery. There's also Profect that you can get from Protica.com. It's a 3oz vial and is 25 grams of protein. It isn't milk based (which I have trouble swallowing). It's more like jello before it sets up. They have fruity flavors but it's pretty sweet. I usually have to hold my breath while I drink it so that I can't taste it as much. Kinda strange....but it works for me! There's also New Whey (I believe that's what it's called) that is very similar to the Profect only it has 46 grams of protein per 3oz vial. This increases the calories by quite a bit, so that's something to watch....but it's a way to get in the protein that you really need to be getting in. You have to get both of these from the internet. Also, Walmart sells a protein powder that I hear is pretty good. It's one that you'd mix with milk so I haven't tried it, but it's not pricey. I can't remember the name offhand....but maybe someone else will know. I also use Nectar protein powder quite a bit. My favorite is the tea flavored. It's definitely got that protein taste to it, but I mix one scoop with 20 oz of water and it isn't so bad. You can buy samples of the different flavors through Vitalady.com. Then if you find one you like, you can order a big jar of it. Chris

LOL I do the same thing. I hold my breath while I take a sip and swallow. Then I take a small sip of water after each sip of protein just to get the taste out of my mouth. I like them because they are fast and easy to get down. Tammy

Hi Tracey...congrats on your new tool!!! I know it's difficult getting use to protein but it is definately a must for healing. Try sprinkling some of the unjury when making jello or other flavored liquids. It does get easier once you graduate to other things such as oatmeal, etc. Dr. Sonnanstine is pretty strict about the types of protein he wants his new patients until they are past the healing stage. The doc as well as Beth will guide you to other sources if you have problems and will probably give you other or more options as you get further out. Remember that you are healing inside so things made taste strange for awhile..if you can't tolerate a large amount try cutting it down and add more little by little.. Good luck and if I can help you out just let me know.. Brenda

i know what you mean about the Unjury. It was not so good. Like Chris N said, I recommend Profect by Protica. The taste is very strong and fruity, but it's not bad. I find it to be a lot better than creamy shakes and things, and it's only 2.9 ounces.... not hard to get it all down. It is a bit expensive though. My favorite flavor is the blue raspberry. Good luck!

Tracey, I don't have any other words of wisdom, but I swear it gets better. I would call Beth. She will help and maybe she has some samples so your not spending more money. Once you are futher out the protein gets better. So other than this problem, are you doing OK? Jane

For protein I love mine and I'm lactose intolerate post op. I get Body Fortress Chocolate Whey at Walmart. Its great. I heat up a 20oz glass of water, in a bowl I mix a scoop of protein (they have vanilla too) and 2-3 teas of splenda, and then u add the ho****er. U can't add boiling water but I add mine pretty hot, like a cup of coffee. Sometimes I add coffee and its like a cappacino. Good luck! Hugs Ange Since u r so newly post op it might take a day or so for your tummy to settle. I didn't do protien for a few weeks. Can't remember if I was supposed to or not. I know the first month after my open rny was rough. It took me a while to get used to my pouch and what it would tolerate. Hang in there it will get better!
