We're thinking about adopting a new baby kitten. Our cat Merlin is about 5-6 yrs old. He was fixed and front declawed when we rescued him almost 2 yrs ago. What I'm concerned with is, I was raised on a farm. My grandparents always had lots of cats outside. When a new batch of kittens would be born mamaw would always talk about how she hoped the stray tom cats, that would come around, wouldn't kill them. I don't want to adopt a new baby if Merlin is going to hurt him. Merlin is a fat, lazy spoiled cat who rules the roost here. He thinks he's human and he's one of our younguns. We're all nuts about the little furball. Well he's not so little. What do u guys think? Is that just a old wives tale about how tom cats kill kittens? I want a new baby so bad and I have wanted one for a year now but have just been afraid to get one with Merlin. Our vet said that it should be ok. But then I worry about Merlin hurting it. I couldn't stand it if I got a kitten and Merlin killed it. Thoughts, advice would be appreciated! I've been browsing petfinder.com lol, all those sweet lil babies. I wish I could take them all but Adam says just one more. He's as crazy about our furry babies as I am. Thanks, guys. Ange & Adam

Hey Ange, I don't think thats totally true. I just think it depends on how the old cat adapts to the new one, as with any animal. I love cats, and dogs, too. lol I would definitely go with getting a second one and at least giving it a try if it doesn't work and Merlin wants to try to hurt it I'm sure you can find it a good home. Good Luck! Katrina

Merlin is so rotten. I have him spoiled so bad. He has dry for 24/7 available in his food bowl but at night I have to give him a small can of Fancy Feast, of course, thats the only kind his highness will eat. If I don't feed him before I go to bed, he'll go wake up Allison. He knows if he wakes her up I have to get up. Or if its not time for him to eat and I just happen to walk by the laundry room where his food bowl is and I don't go in there to feed him when he thinks I should, he'll run after me and pat at my legs. He's rotten to the core. Course, we made him that way. We're going to start looking for a new baby and see how it goes. If it doesn't work I can always put it in the free items of the classifieds for free to a good home only. Thanks Ange

Ange, When I brought my new kitten home my older cat hated her!! She would hiss and run when they first met and for several weeks after but she gradually got used to the new kitten. I read somewhere when you get a new pet that you should keep them apart for a few days and let them meet supervised. Then you should let them gradually spend more time together. When I brought my little boy home from the hospital neither of my cats liked the new "animal"! they both jumped up on the counter and growled at him but now 2 years later one of them sleeps with hime every night.
