i take medicine every night before bed that is in a time-released capsule and ever since my surgery, it has a habit of getting 'stuck' in my chest and it's the most painful experience ever. i've called my doctor for a replacement of this medicine but there isn't another form i can take and i can't stop this medicine completely.....does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do?

I'm afraid that this will happen to me. I haven't had surgery yet... looking at mid-April. One possible solution that I have with my medication is taking more capsules of a smaller dose. I currently take 3 75mg capsules, but the medication comes in capsules of 37.5mg. If I take 6 of the 37.5mg capsules, it will be the same. I haven't checked with my doctor about this yet, but the last time I talked to him he said that the regular capsules that I take should go down just fine. I'm very nervous about that, though.

I have wondered this myself. I am having lap band soon and I take some medications before bed time and what happens if they dont go down?

What kind of medicine is it? My vitamins sometimes act like that. I don't know why... sometimes I can swallow them with no trouble, and sometimes, it gets lodged and I just have to wait and wait and wait... Luckily my clinic offers chewable vitamins. Depending on what it is, you may be able to cru**** or open the capsule and dissolve it in a spoonful of water. It may taste nasty, but its better than being in pain. ??? Just a suggestion.

Tiffany, you need to discuss this further with your doctor and your bariatric surgeon. it is my understanding that timed-released medications don't work for us now. many people have had to get them changed. in your situation, altho it doesn't come in another form. maybe there is a similar medicine that will work just as well>
