Medicaid and Dr. Shina
Hi, I didn't have Dr Shina but I did have Medicaid. It was a pretty quick process for me, I was approved in 24 hrs. The only thing that held me up was losing some weight before the surgery, There guidlines aren't as strict as some Insurance companies such as having to do a diet for 6 months and stuff like that. I'd say it will move fairly quickly for you as well, What time I was waiting I was just on here soaking up all the Info I could...And I'm glad I did. Take care and Goodluck to you.

Thanks, that helps. I was wondering if you had to have certain things wrong with you before they would approve. I really dont have like high blood pressure or diabetes that I know of. They might find that when they run test, but for now I am just really overweight and have little things like knee problems, fatigue stuff like that. Well thanks.
Cindy

Hey April, the only doctors that I know of in Ky are with Dr. Shina. There are several that are with him. I have checked with alot of doctors because I didnt want to have to travel to Louisville. But I am so ready and able and so willing to travel now. I know that I have called Georgetown and Lexington and they all have reffered me to Louisville. I called about 2 weeks ago and my first consultation is April 3rd, I hope everything moves that fast. Hope this helps.

Cindy,
Medicaid policy has changed in the last 6 or 8 months. They do now require 6 month Medical Weight Management, where they didn't use to.
There are not many bariatric surgery doctors in the state that participate with Medicaid, and for that matter, Medicare either.
In Louisville, I believe most of the Norton affiliated surgeons practices participates with Medicaid and Medicare, including
my solo practice @ Suburban hospital
Dr. Shina's solo practice @ Suburban hospital
and the USA surgeons @ the downtown Norton Hospital (Allen,Larson and Rodgriquez).
I hope this helps.

It depends. I think that Medicaid requires 6 months documented physician supervised Medical Weight Management. But i am not completely sure. I know a few months ago we got a letter from medicaid reporting the new guidelines whi*****lude more requirements than their previous guidelines. Dr. Shina's office might know. I know we have that documentation of requirements at my office, but I don't have that in front of me right now.
