Silverlake?
We used to be members of Gold's gym and also the YMCA there on 18. I did not like either one. Gold's gym didn't have a pool and the Y was always SO crowded, winter and summer.
Also I had people be rude to me @ the Y when I would swim (STAFF MEMBERS). When I swim laps I am not the fastest and they had very limited lanes for lap swimming so they would ask me to get out for someone who wanted to do REAL laps.
I am not kidding. My daughter was there (she was 15 @ the time.)
It is definitely best to find the place you are most comfortable at; whether it's curves or the y or gold's, etc.....
I do know that the Y has discount memberships based on income and Silverlake does not. (Silverlake will be adding an outdoor swim area in the next year or 2.)

You know....it really all depends on what you are looking for. When I went to Silverlake...I was mostly looking for a place for the kids to swim. I joined the Y for the "fitness" aspect of it. I liked the gym. I liked the basketball courts and mostly the programs that it offers. I like that the classes are free to members. I never joined a gym because I was too self-conscious. I felt like everyone would be in shape but me. I was too intimidated. I want to see people like me having fat attacks and sweating like they are going to die.
I also like the outside pool for the summer. Silverlake said they were getting an outside pool 5 years ago. I know they have spruced up the inside pool and the hot pool is AWESOME!!! It feels soooooooo good. It is great to take little ones swimming there because it is so shallow and warm. Ahhhhhhh
Just check em out and keep in mind what you want out of it. They are all expensive....and most make you sign a contract (except the Y). I think Silverlakes was a 2 year committment. I didn't get my money out of that.
If you go to Silverlake, they will let you try it out for free. I think they give you unlimited access for a couple of days. It is worth looking into.
