I don't know if I will have to do this or not (don't even know if I have the heart for it really...) BUT is it routine for the bariatric doc clinics to have you see the nutritionist and the psych BEFORE they do a 6 month diet ?

A friend of mine on here has already had her consults and is still working on her 6 month diet. Good thing is. Consults are over and done with and the ball will really roll once the diet is over with.

Hello, I am on a 6 mnth diet for insurance, and in my first month of it I had my nut.and psych eval, Even the people at Nortons were a little surprised by having it so soon, but at least its done. Good luck. Misssy

why are you on a 6 month diet? What insurance do you have? Who is your Doctor? sorry for all the questions, I was wondering, I have heard several different things about medicaid and having to be on a medical supervised diet before surgery. Is this true with all the doctors or just some? Thanks Cindy

I don't remember exactly, but I had a 6 month pre-op diet, and I had my psych consultation during the first month or so of it.

Mine didn't but they had specific guidelines for approval. Hope they don't give you a hard time about it. Sherryl 370/8-23-06 ~ 234/4-1-07 ~ 150/ ?? (come on 150! lol)

I think many of the bariatric doctors want to know up front that you're a good candidate, and that's part of the value in the psychiatrist's and nutritionist's evaluations. I had my psych evaluation and appointment with the nutritionist at my very first appointment with the Bariatric Center in Georgetown. That day I also found out that I was cleared for h-pylori, and I got details about my insurer's (Humana) requirements, one of which was a 6-month, doctor-supervised diet. Once I completed the diet (and the other tests that Humana required), I submitted my paperwork to the Bariatric Center, they faxed it in, and 24 hours later I got word that I was approved for surgery. I didn't have to fool with getting the other approvals because I already had them. Kathy
