Changed My Mind!!!
Ok, before I ever went to see Dr. Allen I had decided to have the gastric bypass or RNY done. Then I got cold feet and told Dr. Allen I would have the lap band, after we discussed it. Dr. Allen said I was a candidate for either one, but would have less down time with the lap band and probably not have the problems I could have with the RNY.
Now, after more research (although I have researced for over a year) I have decided I want to go ahead with the RNY. I just believe it will be the best choice in the long run for me.
Have any of you gone through this with changing your mind about which surgery you wanted?
When I first started researching WLS, I was wanting to go with the Lap-band. It wasn't until I went to my first seminar (the surgery center I chose) I realized with the amount of weight I had to lose, my better choice was to do the RNY. I don't have any regrets with my decision and so far, I've not had one complication. Of course, there are those chances for complications, but there are chances with any surgery.
I wish you the best. Keep us updated on your progress.
Take care and good luck--
Dee

I think I will have regrets that I didn't have the RNY. I want the weight to melt off, but I wasn't willing to have my insides re-routed. One thing that made me go with the lap band was the seminar that I attended at Kings Daughters in Ashland. The doctors were explaining the history of weight loss surgery, noting that "stomach stapling" was done in the 70's & early 80's, then another procedure was done later, now RNY is the surgical procedure. I was afraid that in 10 years, the RNY would be outdated. With the band I can always have it removed and have another procedure done. The band is less permanent. My doctor also said that he doesn't do revisions. I know there are doctors out there that do, but I just wasn't ready for the intestinal commitment (is that even a phrase??) that the RNY required.
Still, I have a problem with sweets. I think I'll have a little more difficulty with the band than others who are just bulk overeaters, but I've made up my mind that I won't settle for anything less that success.
We'll see what happens. I get my band tomorrow.
I originally was thinking of the Lap-Band. After attending an info seminar and doing research I realized it would not work for me because I am a major SUGAR eater. So I figure if I am going to do surgery, I should go for the tool that is going to work best for *me*. It is a personal decision.
But anyway, yes, I did change my mind after learning more and more.

Same here. I had totally made up my mind to have the lap band, however, when I got to sit down with the surgeon and we discussed my eating habits, lap band was not the right decision for me. Although, it is a safer surgery, the results that I needed could not be attained unless going with the RNY.
I am scheduled on the 16th and pray to God that I made the right decision.
Have a great day and keep the Lord in your heart. Everything will work out.
