I know I am getting like way ahead of myself, but I guess I like to have things in order. I would love to hear from all of you who have had to deal with hair loss. What did you do about it? What products did you use to prevent it? Just wondering.......

I am 4 months out (lap band) and just started losing hair. It is similar to the hair I lost after having my babies. I don't always remember to take my vitamins...I would like to blame it on that. However, I really just think that hair loss is a part of the process. I don't think it matters what you do....you are going to have some hair fall out. I would say...PROTEIN....VITAMINS....WATER....If you do what you are supposed to do, it may be minimal.....

I really lost my hair at about 5 months out. I tried everything. I already have short thin hair so you could really notice it on me. Here I am losing a lot of weight and then my hair falling out. People who didn't know about the WLS thought I was sick, cancer. But it stops and it grows back. I was loving life and the hair thing wasn't going to ruin things for me. I got my hair shorter and spiked it up. Got a darker color and used the special shampoo. But I truely think time fixed it. Make sure you take your vitamins and get your protein in. Good luck Jane

Yeah, my hair started coming out around 4 1/2 months. I was expecting it to be much worse than what I got, but even with what I'm experiencing, I have become somewhat self conscious about it. Of course, it doesn't help that my *former* hair dresser cut all my hair off making it shorter-- as in above the ears short. I used to have a thick head of hair and now it's just mildly thin. If I turn my head this way and that, I can see where it's thinner in some areas than others. I think though, on the whole, I'm a better case than most. You're going to lose your hair with this surgery; it's a given. But, you can minimize the loss with making sure you get plenty of fluids and protein. Good luck to you-- Dee

Thanks for the answers.......My hair is not real thick, but it is ok....I know its a given that my hair will thin I am just afraid it will really show. I am a hairdresser so I know I can cover it, I just would like to prevent it. Thanks for the answers. Does anybody use any kind of products that will help prevent it, like Rogaine? Cindy

I am also still losing hair by the handfulls. I got it cut short to help, and it did, but I will be happy when it stops. I was told by the office that it just happens to some people and not to others. I am thankful that I have always had a massive amount of hair! Dr Tom started me on B12 and B complex as well as biotin to help with it and with the energy levels. I am still tired by mid/late afternoon.

Hey Amanda, Oh yes, my hair is still falling out. My hairbrush tells the story and when I run my fingers through my hair, my hands are full of broken, damaged hair. I had to get my hair cut short too. I hate it because I really prefer my hair just past my shoulders. I was going through some old pictures and cried for the loss of my hair. I hope this does stop soon. I was assured that it would, but God only knows when. My hair looks brittle and damaged. On my crown are balding spots and it's just apart of the deal. It's fortunate the positives of the surgery outweigh the negatives! Good luck-- Dee

Sherryl, I too am having issues with being tired by mid afternoon. I am being a procrastinator right now, because I was going to call my surgeon today and see if we can address my low iron issues. I am thinking I'm going to have to have an iron something or another done, because it seems the pills aren't working. ~sigh~ I hope you feel better soon too. Take care-- Dee

I have been using the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner since the day after surgery and haven't noticed any hair loss yet...I know a couple of people that had the surgery and used this and swear that they didn't lose the first piece of hair. You also have to take your vitamins and get in all your protein!!!! Good Luck!
