Eastern KY Support Group Latest Info
I emailed the woman who is in charge of scheduling the classrooms at the Technical Center - which is attached to the library in Pikeville. No response yet. I'll try to call her again next week. Her name is Margaret Arnett.
My friend Susan asked about the community center in Inez. She was told that the other weight loss group (don't know which one - possibly Weigh****chers?) paid for the use of the room. So that's out.
Susan has a couple of contacts at Pikeville hospital... she'll contact them and see where that goes.
Any other ideas?
I'm assuming if we use the library that we have to use it during normal business hours, right?
I thought the wing of the Pikeville library might work better. I had an ebay class there once that didn't start until 6:30 or 7:00, so I know that part of the library building is open later than the regular library.
I had no idea about the Belfry meeting group. I'll try to find out more about it this week. I just had surgery on the 5th, so I'm still taking it easy at home.
Margaret Arnett is the RN for Pikeville College--the part of the Library you are talking about is used by the Osteopathic School of Medicine. Belfry Libray has a room off from the actual library part--that may be an idea you could check out. There is a WLS support group that meets in Williamson, WV Vockie Hatfield, who is the nurse praticioner for Dr. Donovan Beckett runs it, I do not know where they meet, but you might call his office and find out. I do know that people who have had WLS at King's Daughters in Ashland and also people who have had WLS in Charleston and Huntington go there. Maybe you could check that out.

Hi there, I live in Prestonsburg and I'm getting information about the lap band surgery. Is there anyone here that is going through the same thing? Anyone have BC/BS of AL insurance. Any info will be appreciated!

Have you attended any seminars at local hospitals? That's a good place to start. Kings Daughters has a seminar (maybe once a month or every two months) in Paintsville at the Ramada/Carriage House. Check KDMC's website - they might have a listing of the info seminars that are upcoming. My co-worker and I attended one in Ashland, just because we didn't want to wait for the Paintsville seminar. I think we started sometime last fall, and just had surgery on April 5.
I have BC/BS, but it's a federal employees' program. I don't know anything about the BC/BS of AL. I have heard that some insurance policies have specifically written out any coverage for weight loss surgery.
Also, if your insurance doesn't cover it, KDMC offers a 0% interest pay plan for as long as you need to go. My co-worker called about it and the billing person told her that there was no time limit to pay off the hospital bills, and that there would be no interest charged. This might be something you'd want to look into if your insurance doesn't cover surgery.
I'm in the process of getting an eastern KY support group together, but if you have any questions that I can answer, let me know. I'm no expert, I just know what I've been thru at KDMC.
