The gastric diet?????
I know I am getting ahead of myself again, but can anyone tell me how the diet goes? I know when I met with Dr. Shina he said something about jello and liquid in the hospital then its soup, soup, soup and protein drinks. How long does that go for? I am just trying to prepare for this. I guess I am more of a planner then I thought.
Thanks

Most docs will advance your diet over the first 4 weeks from liquids to soft foods. by week six most people are eating a normal to soft diet as tolerated.
The first two weeks were the hardest for me, mainly because I don't care for pudding and jello. I lived on sugar free pops and crystal light.
Our clinic does phases in the gastric diet. If memory serves me right, I was on soft foods about 2 weeks after surgery.
The only thing I remember about not being able to eat real food is the fact every television channel I watched had some kind of comfort food being advertise. I went through a mourning process. It was quite pathetic, although quite normal.
My first attempt at soft/solid foods was tuna salad. Big mistake! I got sick (didn't puke though) and had to lay down for a few hours.
Eggs were very much appreciated and I went through (still do) quite a few. It was quite mind blowing how 2tsp of something was very filling.
I'm now up to a cup a food a day. ~sigh~
Good luck to you--
Dee

When I had mine done 2yrs ago today I had the liquid diet in the hospital and then for about 2 weeks after that I had soup and scrambled eggs yuck but at least it wasn't all soup. The protein is forever because you can eat a lot you have to have the supplement of the protein to keep you from getting sick.
