exercise....
Hi!
I guess it depends on where you carried the bulk of your weight pre-op. For me, my back and shoulders area had a lot of it, so I really try to focus on my upper body training. Swimming is great for you, no matter how far out!
I also do the walking and sit ups, etc., but the weights/stretches for me are really intense for my waist and up.
Good luck!!
Kat
I'm sure everyone has different likes and dislikes regarding exercise, but here's what I like to do!
I walk 4 days a week while on breaks at work (avg. 20 min a day) and then I do exercise videos 4 times a week that are anywhere from 30-50 minutes in length.
I try to spread it out so that I'm exercising 5 days a week so some days I walk and then do a video that night...some days I only walk....and then other days I only do a video. And if I have the videos at home...I have no excuse not to exercise. It doesn't matter what the weather is like outside or if I have a car to get me to the gym, etc.
Right now I'm using Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds videos and I really like them. They have different intensity levels and I'm slowly working my way up through them. But just know that I started out using the videos soon after surgery and I had mobility issues due to my weight. For someone more physically fit than me, this might not be enough of a workout. For now....it still makes me sweat like crazy and breath really hard....so it must be working for me!
Wow Chris, I am impressed...I love exercise videos..I could watch them all day..LOL...get my meaning? I don't get off my butt to do it, only watch. I have to go outside my home to get my exercise or I simply won't do it. I did belong to a gym but my membership expired and I let is as I am now employed by Tri health at Bethesda North hospital where we are allowed to work out..though I haven't found the gym yet..lol
But I will darn it!!!
soon I will be horseback riding if I can get the mud and tangles out of my horses from the rough winter they had..they look like pigs instead of horses..lol
keep up the good work!!! whatever you do don't forget to drink your water!!

I work on the bike and naut. equipment since I have bad knees. Most of my weight was in the middle so I spend more time working my waist area.
Once you are cleared by the doc to start, you can do anything you enjoy (or will tolerate) 4-5 times a week.
Wow Tiff that actually is a good question. We as being former big people all carried it differently.... Kat says she was big in the upper back and shoulders, Sherryl says around the middle. Me... I was big boned and I wore my clothes to minimize how big I looked. Meaning some people didn't think I was that overweight. I was a solid big person from kneecaps to the top of my over sized watermelon head. Oh yeah I had big feet too, but the legs were fine just a little flab from no conditioning.
How do you lose the fat head effect. I would love to be able to walk in a store and be able to buy a new UK wildcats hat without having to worry about cutting off the circulation to my brain.
I guess there is no definitive answer for your question. The variables are many. Likes, costs, any things prohibiting you from doing a certain movement. But for some tips... you can Walk
, swim, run (if able), work at a daycare and run after the young'uns
,

oh yeah don't forget sex. They say that is a very good exercise.
I think I am going to join the YMCA again and try to utilize it better than last time. Take more of the water fitness classes and CORE training to help my back out. And as the back strengthens up move the my base training to get more aerobic type exercises in. Maybe either a kickboxing class or the spinning classes. Shoot maybe by then I will like all this exercising and take both.
