I HAVE CYSTS ON MY KIDNEYS AND LIVER AFTER BYPASS
Hi Wanda, I am certainly no medical expert but I can tell you my experience with a friend...
I went with a lady friend of mine to a urologist..her bariatric doc recommended her seeing him because of seeing "cyst" in the kidneys. He wanted the ok from the Urologist before he proceeded.
The urologist told her that of course these should always be checked out just to make sure ..but what he saw was evidently very common..he told us that day that seeing these type of cyst in those over 50 is very, very common..in most cases they do nothing about it, but if they are causing a problem there is a procedure..( I have no idea what or any more about it)...where they may remove part of the cyst..if blockage occurs..
I have also watched surgeons perform bariatric surgery...and have seen cyst on the liver which they didn't seem to worried about. Often times just for safety some surgeons will do a liver biopsy while in there...if they feel the need.
Now with this being said, I would certainly follow your doctors recommendations if he feels you should be checked further by another specialist..or if you are not comfortable then insist on seeing one yourself.
The key to good health is taking action, something I never did before gastric bypass. Today I am very involved in my own health care and refuse to walk away without answers. We deserve the best of care and the answers we need to make us comfortable.
My suggestion would be to talk further with your doc..tell him you are concerned and would like a second opinion about the cyst.. by another specialist (urologist, etc)..I am sure he will be more than happy to recommend someone if you don't have anyone already. If you do then simply get a copy of the picture and take them to the doc with you..
Believe me the bariatric docs I know want more than anything to see their patients taking control..
good luck and keep us updated..
Brenda
