feeling hungry
I had the lapband surgery yesterday and I did great. I was at the hospital about 6 hours total. Today I am sore.. muscles feel so tight. I am drinking clear liquids for 2 days but Fri. I can start protein drinks and pudding. .. My question is are we suppose to feel hungry? All day today I have fought hunger pains. I am drinking plenty of fluids and it doesnt feel like there is any obstrutions with the band I thought I would have some kinda of swallowing problem...
Hey there Charolette,
I don't know anything about the lap-band surgery, (the specifics anyways) but I wanted to tell you I'm glad the surgery went alright without a hitch.
As far as the hunger pains, could it be a fill issue? I think I would call the Dr.'s office and ask them about the hunger pains.
Also, and please forgive me if I'm off base here, but could you be having head hunger? I know after my surgery (the RNY) I had a week of grievance and severe head hunger. It was more difficult to endure that, than anything I'd imagined.
I'm not saying that's what yours is, but only offering another perspective to a possibility? If it's not, and I were you, I'd call my docs office.
Good luck hon--
Dee

I agree that a call to the doctor couldn't hurt. Also, since the lap band doesn't change the what and when of your diet, it would may sense that the hunger wouldn't change alot with clear liquids.
Congrats on the surgery though and good luck!
Charolette,
Congratulations on your surgery. I had my lapband surgery in August 06.
It's not unusual to be hungry. Drink as much as you can, and that will help some. Also, eat some chicken or beef broth, and that should taste like real food. Once you can start having thick liquids, you'll feel much better. Pudding, applesauce, cottage cheese--all of those are good foods to help you feel full.
After a few weeks of healing, youre likely to feel as if the band is gone. Once the swelling from the band placement dissipates, your band probably won't provide any restriction at all. Just keep practicing the band rules (don't drink with your meals, eat solid protein first, take TINY bites, chew extremely well). If you're lucky, you won't need very many fills to provide good restriction, but it took me 8 fills and 7 months to reach that point.
I love my band, and it's working well for me. My weight loss is slow but fairly steady; I feel great; and I'm almost never hungry!
