Suburban's Support Group
I went to my seminar in Jan I think it was. I havent been to a support group yet but am planning on it soon.
They say it is a great idea to start going before surgery to learn even more and the same for after. And sucess tends to be better with those that utilize the support offered. I am gonna try to go as often as I can.
Hi Joy,
I attended the support group at Suburban during March 07. According to my calendar, the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 26, 2007 @ 6:00pm.
I found the support group meeting to be very informative. I had a laproscopic RNY
on 4-6-07 by Dr. Shina. During the support group, I meet one of Dr. Shina's patients that was 3 weeks post op.

Deb,
Thanks so much for replying! Congrats and I hope u are healing really well!
I need to start going to the support groups. I dont have a date YET but looks like it may be within the next couple of months. Waiting for the C.O.E paperwork to get back to Suburban.
Are there many ppl at the meetings?
Oh sorry. hehehe Ppl=people.
Great job on 11 lbs already!
Did u see Dr Shina before surgery? I had heard that sometimes u may see the surgeon at the seminar but not again until the morning of surgery.
I know I have to find out his diet he wants us to follow for sure because the nutritionist went down the line on the paper markin through stuff saying Dr Shina has us follow his own plan.?? So thats I guess the only part left that I am confused on.

Hi Joy,
I don't read my e-mail on a reqular basis as you can tell by my response time.
I saw Dr. Shina apprx 3 times before surgery. Once was the first office visit and then at two different education sessions.
His diet instructions are different from the other surgeons. His office staff will give you his specifics. I was on Phase III of my diet before I realized! Phase I - clear liquids was post op day one (prior to the test to check for leaks). Phase II began immediately after I got the test results from the Barium Swallow. I mainly consumed meat based canned soups, jello, yogort and jello for the first two weeks. Dr. Shina placed me on Phase III of his diet two weeks post op. Thankly, I have been able to keep all food down and have not experienced any nausea. Now, I eat grilled or baked meats (fish, scallops, cheicken). Last week cooked a roast in the crock pot, it was very tender. I try to concentrate on eating high protein meats. This morning for breakfast I had 1/2 egg and 1 slice of bacon.
