...and another thing
Another "copy and paste" from the post I posted on another board. I hope you all don't mind.
I weigh 138 now. I'm down from 248 (originally before losing some on my own and then going in for RNY). I thought I could go to 135ish and still do. However, my shoulder bones are starting to stick out, not bad yet but not far from being what everyone else seems to think is too thin. My ribs show some, again, not in a bad way. You can just see where they are when I don't have a shirt on. And... when I stand in the sunlight coming through my bedroom window, you can count my rib bones in my chest. That might not be good. I never saw them before so I don't know if that's normal or if it's considered "too thin".
Anyway what I'm getting at is my protein issue again. I COULD eat a tiny bit more protein if I left the veggies alone and ate only protein during the day and maybe a container of yogurt. However, if I do this, I will lose more weight... maybe as much as 10 or even 20 more pounds. I'm not sure I want to go there. If I don't leave off the veggies, I can't eat more protein because I just simply can't fit more food into my day. Any advice?
Gale
Hi Gale, i started out at 242lbs and 18 mo later 107lbs as of today,my bones stick out also, you can count my ribs lol,but i am getting back on the road to recovery. I drink boost and i drink cyto gainer at 600 cal a shake,i am able to eat now so i am thanking the lord for that,i plan on being at 130lbs by summer, and i buy my cytogainer at gnc. I eat and drink around 3500 cal a day and i still go up 5lbs and then down 5lbs,i have never stoppped losing, if i was you i would ask youre doc what a good idea he may have. My doc failed me so i had to seek other options, but you take care and dont get to skinny!!!!!!!!
Vickie
Vickie, I'm not surprised to hear that your doctor failed you. I have the same doctor. On my 6-month checkup he said gave me the paper for my labs. I already had them done and turned in to the clinic there. That just showed me they don't even look at them. I was quite let down. I have my labs done at my pcp's office because it saves me about $250.00. My pcp is the one who is concerned about my iron and protein levels.
I hope you can get your weight up to where it needs to be and keep it there. I'm staying in the upper 130's, which is okay with me. I'm just concerned that if I have to cut back on fruits and veggies to make room for more protein, I'll drop more weight. Five pounds would be okay but I wouldn't want to go below 130 and that might even be too thin for me at this time in my life.
How far out are you from your surgery? It might say on your post and I didn't see it. Are you in Lex? I'm south of there a bit.
Gale
im in Danville Gale, and you no what i dont have anything nice to say about my doc,he is a surgeon and that is all he is. I will never allow myself back in his care. I have all my blood work done at my pcp office also and thats how i knew something was wrong with me. My liver enzymes where so high. And i dropped all saint joes vits and i buy mine at gnc and for the last 3 mo all labs are fine. I am on the road to a full recovery. But at that office Steiner stands out lol.............i have my faith in him and i do like the office pepps................take care hun..................vickie
Vickie, we're so close. I'm in Garrard County myself. Lancaster is the county seat but Danville is where my electric company is.
Sounds like you and I have similar opinions about our surgeon. I think he's a really good surgeon since he's got so much experience and all but there is definitely something lacking in the after care. I buy my vitamins from Wal-Mart. I do get my protein powder from them but only because I can't find it any where else.
I'm pretty sure my pcp is going to put me back on the prescription iron pills and I guess I'll have to take them until my iron levels are up and then perhaps the otc will be okay. Hey! MAYBE I'll get through the change over the next 12 months and that will help me hold on to what little "iron" I have left. lol
Gale
Gale.........walmart sales protein powder near the pharmecy.....i buy mine at gnc the gold standard whey 24 gms protein and no sugar and 100 cal and it choc, vanilla cream, carmel choc...........and if you open it and dont like it,with your reciept they will take it back.........and its 22 dollars for a months worth.........and walmarts is 13 dollars.........but i dont buy not one thing from that office. I buy all vits and powders at gnc. I have nothing good to say about the after care. But i have had to find out my own care at my own level..................you and i could meet ok............i love new friends..........
Vickie
Vickie, I was buying my calcium there because it was chewable and I couldn't swallow the horsepills you get otc but am now able to swallow better so I don't even buy those there anymore. I will definitely check out the powders you mentioned at GNC. I'd love to not have to go there for that anymore. Like you, I have nothing good to say about the aftercare there.
When I went in with severe abdominal pain, so bad I could hardly breathe, he never even looked at my abdomen or felt it or did anything. He asked if I had been constipated and said that was it. I could walk (for exercise) for about three months because the pain would come every time I walked more 1/4 mile or more... it even hit me at work just walking around taking care of customers. ...and that was AFTER the constipation was over. I never did find out what caused it.
I'd love to meet. Maybe somewhere in Lancaster? I'm not terribly familiar with the area but can surely find my way around. I wouldn't even mind driving to Danville on my day off for lunch or something? Let me know.
