Probably a stupid question...but...
I had to get a kidney/liver/gallbladder scan, chest x-rays (and due to a false positive I had to get a heart cath), stress test, blood work, sleep study (but not everyone has a sleep study), EGD (scope down the throat), colonoscopy (not everyone has to get colonoscopy)... I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting about. My psych was three visits... apparently I had "binge eating" issues. I had to meet with the nutritionist - one visit.
That's all I can think of right now... but I'm sure I've forgotten something!
Hi Laura!
That's not a stupid question at all!
Every surgeon/program is different so what you have done may very well be different than the tests I had done prior to surgery. Also, the tests may vary on a case by case basis which means that even if we went to the same surgeon, we may need different tests based on medical history.
With all that being said, here's what I had to have completed before surgery...
Nutrition Class (1 class)
Psychiatric evaluation (1 meeting)
One-on-One with dietician (1 meeting)
Pre-op classes (4 classes)
Gallbladder Ultrasound
Sleep Study (2 nights because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea)
Cardiac Clearance (EKG, Echocardiogram, Stress Test)
Get an IVC filter (to help reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism)
Just be sure to follow your surgeon's recommendations so you can have the safest possible surgery.
Take care!
Chris
