Need some thoughts on this.

I am scheduled for RNY lap on June 15th. Got everything lined up perfectly for the surgery.... work....friends....husband.....providers..... insurance company..... losing a little before the surgery.... Then out of the blue I am having gall bladder attacks. I go Monday for an Upper GI and referral to a surgeon. Has any one out there had this experience and what did the RNY surgeon suggest? I guess I can deny surgery since I am going to have it removed at the time of the RNY, right? Or do I need to postpone my RNY date and go ahead and let them take this thing out? Need ideas, 'cause I don't want to loose this two years of hard work getting this approved. Hugs, Annie and

It will depend on how bad the galbladder looks. If its not bad watch all sweet and fat content and let Dr Shina remove it next month.

News..... Dr. Shina will not do a gall baldder removal at the same time he does the RNY unless it is open incision. According to the office he won't do the removal with the same instruments that he uses for the RNY by lap and the GB requires different instrument positions. So it is RNY June 15th and removing the GB 6-8 months later. Hugs, Annie

In my practice, I would only remove the gallbladder at the same time as gastric bypass during a laparoscopic procedure if there are gallstones and they are symptomatic. Because of the instrument locations for the laparoscopic gastric bypass, it is a fairly awkward position to do the gallbladder portion of the operation and for that reason I would do the gallbladder surgery separate if the gallstones are not already causing problems. For lap-band surgeries, I would not do the gallbladder portion at the same time. I believe that is what I just stated, but thanks for the confirmation of their information. Stones are confirmed by ultrasound and they are symptomatic. Upper GI was normal. I'm willing to wait and do the GB removal at another time as advised by my surgeon's office. I am having the RNY by laparoscopy. Hugs, Annie
