Just started
I have Humana PCA. My docs office says I am approved & have a reference #. (Says good things about the doc's office!) This took about a month.
I have not received anything from Humana and their web site shows nothing filed and no pre-approvals, so I don't know what that says about Humana. Other people have had trouble with Humana, but when I checked the insurers forum it looks like Humana has a pretty good approval record. Melanie g.
Hi Leann, Welcome to the boards!
My hubby and I have an isurance carried by Humana and we had no problem what so ever getting approved. Infact, when the surgery was ready to submit my DH's, mine had already been approved. (less than 4hrs)
I believe that unless there is an exclusion with your work, there won't be a problem. Also, most of Humana insurances do require a 6 month supervised diet (through your doc) before any approval notification. (my hubby's insurance didn't require this)
So, I would make that appointment pronto and ask for your PCP to follow you on a diet to save time while going through the process at your WLS-center.
Good luck to you and if you have any further questions, please feel free to email me.
Take care--
Dee

I have Humana PPO through the state employee group. The surgeon's office was sending my packet to the wrong insurance office for 4 months and not getting anywhere. Why didn't someone pick up a phone and make an inquiry? Finally I called Humana myself (the right office), they had no record of my asking or the surgeon asking for any approval.. Once the surgeon's staff and the right agent at Humana were introduced to each other, I was approved within 36 hours. Don't be afraid to follow up on things if you aren't getting correspondence within a reasonable amount of time.
Sleep studies? Make sure your sleep study physician is in the Humana system. I had one sleep study done and afterwards they told me they didn't take my insurance at that time. The bill was sent to me!
Good luck!!
