I am new at this also.    Dr Sonnanstine's has classes you take before the surg & one of the classes was taste testing.  I liked the Unjury best (so far... Taryn mentioned that your tastes may change...)  I also have a post RNY friend who said stuff tastes too sweet now!  Now THAT I can't imagine!   LOL!

I got some unflavored unjury and also a variety pak from Bariatric Advantage.  I like the Profect bullets if they are diluted in about 16 oz of water with one splenda added.   I think it is just going to be one of those things where you have to try different things and see which one you don't puke up & tastes decent. The nutritionist did say the protein should be an "isolate".   Did your nutritionist recommend anything? Melanie g.

Hi Darlene and welcome to the boards! When me and my hubby had the surgery, we did the Proti-diet hot chocolate, (look on the Internet for sales of this if your surgery center doesn't sale it) Unjury unflavored, (to mix in soups and chili--will become your staple) and Wal Marts chocolate flavored Body Fortress.  I never did try the Unjury's flavored protein powders, because I had a difficult time getting down the unflavored. It helped me by getting a sippy cup, mixing, then pouring into my bowl. (It smelled like a combination of cat **** and rotten fish) Anyhoot, now I drink Slim Fas chocolate flavored Low Carb (20g of protein) and do some protein bars I pick up at Wal Mart.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me. I'll be happy to help.  Take care and good luck-- Dee

Hi Darlene, Each program is different and may have different requirements as to which proteins you should use so you should really stick to using what your surgeon/nutritionist recommend. One thing I would suggest is that you not buy a large supply to start with.  As someone else said, your tastes may change and something you like before surgery you may not care for after.  So finishing one cannister of protein that you're not overly fond of anymore isn't so bad......but if you've bought 4 or 5...well....you might not be so happy about it!!

Well first off WELCOME!!!!   I hope you find many answers here...............not that I have one today..lol!!!!        Really I agree with some that has already posted, its really a hit and miss thing...before surgery you may like 6 out of 7 proteins drinks you try afterward  it may be 1....and dont buy a large amount before surgery because your' taste will change and what you like now may not be what you like then!!!     But like many on here all I can stomach is the Body Fortress @ walmart, I mix it with milk now, but in the begining I mixed it with 1 pg. Diet Hot Choc and 8oz of water and heated it like hot coco..dont make the mistake I made and heat it very long it will clump like pudding!!  lol   BUt really there are so many....and in the begining you'll be willing to try to drink anything and then you'll go thru a OMG stage where you  look for the least amount you can get down with the most amount of protein in it..because you are so tired of drinking it......but that will pass (for most of us)   but anyway try many just dont stock up!     GOOD LUCK!!!!!! Hi Darlene! I am 1 year post op and the only protein I could tolorate was body fortress from walmart, kroger or target. This stuff isnt hard to "stomach" at all. My whole family drinks this stuff. I do agree with the other responses though... Don't stock up on any one kind because your tastes do change a bit. Sample packs are wonderful and I have found those at biggs grocery stores. I still supplement protein from time to time and especially lately with my recent hysterectomy just trying to get healed up. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
