Hey everyone,     I had my surgery almost 5 years ago, and at the time Blue Cross/Blue Shield covered wls for people who were morbidly obese.  If I'm not mistaken, they changed their policy shortly after I had my wls, and it's a lot harder to get it approved.  I'm asking this because I'm considering a revision, and can't find any sort of answers...lol.  My bmi is like 37 and I still have some comorbidities (acid reflux, depression/anxiety, joint pain, etc)  I'm also thinking there needs to be a "6 month supervised" diet and blah blah.  I have been on a 4 yr diet, due to  weightloss halting at 8 months out. :(   I've spoken w/ 3 different nutritionists, tried Meridia again, and have even had to go days without eating at all to maintain weight...but I've still gained 25 lbs.   Did anyone here have bcbs? Has anyone had a revision? thanks.

I have BCBS and had no trouble getting approved for gastric bypass.  However I didn't have a revision and it's more than likely that we have different plans.   I'd suggest calling your insurance company and seeing what your specific plan covers and what requirements you need to meet in order to qualify for a revision.  Also find out which surgeons they will cover.

I am 19mths out and had no trouble with our BCBS.  I did not have to do any 6mth diet.  But you know they are all diffrent.  My sister had lap band 6 mths ago, she too had BCBS and her BMI was 35 with 2 comorbidities.  But you know they all are diffrent.  Your company may have an exclution.  But I would check with your HR.  She would know what is written in your policy. BCBS had an exclusion on my policy and would cover nothing. Good thing I had 2nd insurance with covered it all!
