I smoked for 23 years and quit nearly a month and a half ago.  I went the cold turkey route cause Chantix or anything else didnt work for me.  I still crave daily, sometimes severely.  While trying to lose some weight pre/op I have gained 10 lbs too...

Just a lil note to warn all pre and post ops. GET YOUR PROTEIN IN EVERYDAY!!!  I have done rather crappy with mine since day 1 and I am paying dearly with VERY slow weight loss, major hair loss, and all out feelin like shit!  PLEASE!!!!  Follow your program's rules!!

I have smoked for about 7 years, and I had to quit for surgery, but I'll admit -- I have smoked since surgery.

Hi Darlene I smoked for 40 years, quit with Chantix you may want to give it a try.  I still crave, nicotine is a drug and I want addicted to it.  So just like any addict we will allways crave.  I takes control and commintment.  It was nice meeting you in person.   Char

I quit smoking as a requirement for surgery by my doc but I did start back up... which the doc isnt thrilled about but I still do it. I have heard chantix works well but not for everyone... maybe when im ready I will give quitting a try again. Best of luck to you!

Morning. I've never been a "heavy" smoker...I think at my highest it was like a half pack a day. And it's been on and off through the years. The only times I find I want to smoke now, since surgery, are when I go out (social setting) or get monster stressed/upset. My roommate smokes (outside) so real easy to just step outside with her.  I think it's just a craving, like food, or liquor, etc. Have to battle them the same way: make that choice. Good luck hon. ~Kat
