Well...tomorrow I go to Ashland to meet my surgeon, Dr. Tompkins. I should be excited...right? Well my father doesn't want to go with me. He doesn't want me to have the surgery. And my mother can't go, she's going to watch my son for me. And I just asked my brother to go. He's been to Ashland before, his ex lives there and when they were dating he went to visit her (we like in Pike Co.). I asked him and he said he can't. But he'll take a day off from work to go on a trip with his horrid girlfriend. And now I have to go alone. I've never been to Ashland before. Never been thru Ashland before. Especially not by myself.  I feel like crying.  I'm excited about seeing my surgeon...but this whole...thing.... My dad goes "Can't you reschedule for next week?" Haha more like a few months from now. He doesn't want me to have the surgery. He doesn't understand. He's never been fat. You don't know what its like to be an obese person unless you have been there or are there.  So it looks like I'm the Lone Ranger tomorrow...I printed out directions from Yahoo Maps. I hope I don't get lost... /rant

I'm so sorry that you don't have anyone to go with you but I'm sure you'll do just fine.   I understand about your dad not being supportive. One of my best friends wasn't supportive to the point that he pretty much stopped talking to me for quite a while.   Once I explained to him that I decided to do this for my health....that I wanted to be around long enough to use all the retirement money I've been saving....he started coming around.   Just give your dad some time....and let him know that this is for your health.    Let us know how your meeting with the doctor goes....and that you made it through Ashland okay!

When I told my parents that I was going to have WLS, the first thing my father said to me is, "Why are you going to do this? "You're just going to fail that too." I was heart broken, and don't think for a second that those words aren't echoing in the back of my head every time I step on the scale.  You know what though, he has come around somewhat. I think he realizes just how much I needed this for my health. One of the most difficult things for me to realize, and accept, was to stand on my own. I remember the first time I had a question after surgery; I had my husband call up there to ask it for me. The first thing the nurse said was, "Have DeAnne tell me her problems, not you." She was right. You support yourself, can come here for support and I'm certain that your son does and will support you too. It's difficult, I know. I wish you the best; email me if you need to talk. You guys are really wonderful...just reading how much support and love that is on here makes me so happy.  My mother decided to go with me so it was me, my mother, and my little boy. :) I go back Monday (the 18th) for my psych eval., meet my dietician, and and exercise thing.  I didn't get lost at all, thank God! We passed the street up and had to turn around though lol.  I have KyHealth Card (Medical Card-Medicaid) and I have to do a 6 month dr supervised diet and meet my PCP once a month for weigh in's and such and meet my dietician once a month in Ashland as well. That made me sad that I have to wait 6 more months. I was hoping to be a bit thinner by the holidays. Oh well. This will be my last holidays to pig out, yeah? LoL But again, thank you all for your replies. They made my heart smile :)

I'm on the same plan..... 6 months of medical weight loss.....and make sure your months are consecutive!!!!!  I missed my 6th month due to work and they made me start over...and on with the medical weight loss..they require that you lose weight....even if it is only 5lbs...and trust me those 6 months fly by......but you cannot and i repeat cannot gain weight on this program...trust me I've been there and already heard all the gryping..lol...but I finally got my but in gear and started losing...also they require you to lose weight for you surgery to shrink your liver....I guess to keep from damaging it...but good luck to ya =D
