- A comfortable robe for your walks around the hallway - An oscillating desk fan - Non-skid house slippers - Lotion & lip balm - If you have long hair, a scrunchee or a headband - A mirror (if you think you'll want to apply makeup - I didn't!!!) - 2 pillows to go beneath your arms - Crystal Lite packets (if your hospital doesnt provide, and if you think it will help w/ your liquids) - Socks Do not overpack. That's my best recommendation. I kinda did, because I wanted to be prepared, and I ended up sleeping almost the entire time I was in the hospital.

Here are my suggestions: Hair brush Non-skid slippers cozy homeward bound clothes hair tie a good friend or family member that has been told that you need them to be your eyes and ears. You will need to sleep as much as possible between your walks down the hallway. You will need them to write down anything important and to assist you in all sorts of ways. Take good care and I will keep you in my prayers. Let me know how you are. Katherine

THE HOSPITAL I WENT TO PROVIDED ALL THOSE THINGS.  I WOULD RECOMMEND A FALVORED CHAP STICK AND REALLY COMFY CLOTHES TO WEAR HOME.  YOU WILL WANT STUFF REALLY LOSE AND NOT TOUCHING.  DON'T TAKE ALOT BECAUSE YOU WON'T FEEL LIKE WORKING CROSSWORDS OR READING.  I TOOK MUSIC TO LISTEN TO BUT DIDN'T USE IT.  IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO GET MY MEALS. LIQUIDS IN.  THAT TOOK MOST OF MY DAY.  WATCHING THE CLOCK AND SIPPING. AND THEN WALKING EVERY CHANCE I HAD. JANE

I never take much to the hospital...a robe, slip on slippers because you won't want to bend over to tie or  put sock type slippres on.. and that was it..I was operated on again between Christmas and New Years by Dr. Sonnanstine for an infection after plastic surgery (not performed by him)..I walked late at night in the halls while everything was quiet..( I am not a good sleeper)..I took catnaps during the day and only watched the early AM news on TV..I did try to read a little and my son in law brought a portable DVD player he had used while in Iraq..he brought me a few movies so I watched maybe one if that..I could't stay awake long enough..music was good too.. make sure you bring your toothbrush and toothpaste, lotions, soaps if you are particular like me..I have terrible allergies and only use certain soaps etc.and of course the hairbrush and again clothes to wear home..with comfy shoes..or wear the slippers home! fans are great ideas, many of the hospitals will provide it..I ask for one at St. Luke, they brought it in right away.

good luck!

Be sure to take something very loose and comfy to wear home. Also, slip on shoes to wear home, because you will not feel like bending over etc. My hospital provided pretty much everything everyone listed below with the exception of a robe. My BEST suggestion would be to take your own pillow that you normally sleep with. The first night I was there I was miserable. Made hubby go home and get mine, and then I was MUCH more comfortable. Good Luck!
