I finally got a date for my Dietary and Psychological Evals! July 11th yay I also found out my insurance will pay for the LapBand I am wanting but not the fills that come with it! Don't that beat it all! It will cost me $250 to $300 every 6 to 8 weeks and right now I can not do that considering my bills~rent and car payment and all lifes other grand necessities "spelling?". It looks like I am going to have to go with the Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, which scares me senseless, if anybody out there has had this type of surgery words of wisdom and advice would be appreciated!

Hi!

I had Lap. RNY gastric bypass last November and I'm very happy with my surgery.  However this is the surgery I chose to have from the beginning.   Personally, I chose this surgery because I have a LOT of weight to lose and I knew I would lose quicker with the gastric bypass vs. lap band.  Also, I wanted the benefit of dumping syndrome.  I've always been a big sweet and junk food eater and the dumping keeps from wanting either one.  Dump once on something and the likelihood of wanting it again are pretty low!     BUT!  This is a very personal choice for each person.  You have to make the choice that is best for you......because you're the one that is going to have to live with it.   I'm very happy with my choice and wouldn't change it for anything....but that's me.

Congrats on the dates! I had lap rny by the same doc as Chris... Honestly... I know I made the right choice. I originally wanted the lap band until my doc explained both surgeries. Thats when I knew rny was best for me... as Chris said before, I like dumping because... it keeps me on track... I need the sugar restriction to keep me in line... I am 13 mos out and I am thankful every day that I had the bypass.

Most of my family has also had this surgery and I am confident they would tell you the same things.  Best of luck to you with your decisions Sarah

(dumping I mean)   but I agree that the choice is very personal..and I know about being scares!   I was terrified before my surgery but my surgeon along with his staff and the support of my husband  eased my mind and my recovery has been amazing!!!     So GOOD LUCK!!   and remember this is the begining of the walk of a lifetime!!    and a road to a better you!!!
