I was wondering if there is anybody that has had the lap band surgery that wishes that they would have had  gastric bypass instead?? I actually wish I would have had the actual gastric bypass in a way... I was just wondering if anybody else felt the same as me :)

Hi there! I have not had the surgery yet.  I am wanting the Lap-Band because of it being alot more safer than the Gastric By-Pass. But the more and more I read about the GBP I am rethinking my decision. I have alot of weight to lose and I am not sure the Lap-Band will help me like the GBP will. Why are you wishing you had the other if I may ask?

Thats the same reason I had the Lap band surgery.. because it was supposed to be safer and reversible (just in case)...but I am just really frustrated with my rate of weight loss. I think I should have chosen the gastric bypass because I have alot of weight to lose(between 60-100 pounds).. but I don't think my insurance would have covered that procedure because they said I wasn't that much overweight(Yeah freakin right!!!). I'm going to try to get past my frustrations and make this surgery work the best I can make it work :) Good luck with your surgery and I know you'll make the right deciscion!

I did have GBP and am so pleased that I did. My friend had the lap-band done the beginning of November 06 and is so frustrated that she has given up. She says that it is really hard to control herself and if she could have controlled herself that she never would have needed WLS. I tried to tell her before surgery that I thought that she would do better with GBP but she said that the band was SAFER and REVERSABLE! You know She had the same amout of OR time, More incisions, and larger ones, she had to go thru anesthesia same as me, her diet is restricted about the same as mine if not more, and had more complications than I did. Her hospital stay was longer than mine and over all she is miserable. I wish you both the best of luck with your decisions as well as your awesome journey. I just wanted to share that I am of the belief that they are both MAJOR surgery and if you are still undecided.... WAIT! Katherine

Those were my thoughts exactly when I thought about the LapBand, safer and reversible! I thought well if something happens it would be easier to take it out than to go in and try and reverse the GBP! My sister had the LapBand in July of 05 and she has had no problems at all and had lost a total of 130 lbs up until Nov of 06 "she found out she was preggo with twins"!  Anyhow thank you both for the words of encouragement and luck! When I go for my nut appt and dieticiam appt I will talk to them and also with my Doc who is Doctor Shina! I know he cant nor will make the decision for me but I will talk to him about changing my mind! I have way over 100 pounds too lose so I am almost positive that the Lap GBS would be the better way for me to go! By the way I do not live far from either of you Ladies, I live in Radcliff!!!
