Hi Gang,Totally off topic I know, however, I have some questions. On June 25th I had a thermal ablation done to help with some problems I had been having with my periods. At my follow up visit today my OBGYN stated that things did not look good, and that chances were I would be having a hysterectomy at some point the end of this month or first of August. I have also had some problems with cysts on my ovaries etc. I do know at this point I do have a cyst the size of a small orange. Has anyone else had these problems? With the cysts will they do the hysterecotmy vaginally or abdominally, is what I am wondering. All good questions, that I did not think of during my visit with him this morning!  After hysterectomy what changes can I expect? I appreciate any info anyone who has went through this has! Thanks!

Hey there! I had my hysterectomy on april 18th. They did it through an abdominal incision and I havent had any complications from it. She actually gave me a "mini tuck" while she was working on me. I will say the recovery was a bit more than what I expected especially since surgery is usually a breeze for me. I think the first week or so was the worst. I didnt have any external stitches or staples and  my incision goes hip to hip because of her taking some of my excess skin off.  Would I do it all over again..... HELL YEA  without a second thought. I dont miss my period anymore or the problems that went along with it. I havent noticed any major hormonal changes but they did leave my ovaries in.  I hope this helps even a little and if you have any questions let me know. Sarah

I appreciate the responses! It has really weighed on my mind since the Dr. brought it up. Sarah,

was your surgeon familiar with bypass patients? Mine did comment that he was not familiar with bypass patients and I came a hair of asking him if he thought that my uterus was different now that I'd had WLS

How long were you off work? Also, Miranda, since your friend had it vaginally how long was she off? I wonder how they determine which procedure to do?

At any rate I really appreciate all the info guys! Thanks again!

She was off work 1.5 weeks.   She has an office job that does not require lifting.  They done the eblation first b/c they md felt that would fix her problem.  (Heavy long painful periods), but it did not.  Actually her pain got a bit more intense after about 3 weeks out, and then the dr doen an ultrasound and said things look fine.  Her pain never left, so they decided that her body was not adjusting to the excessive scar tissue.  So they done a vaginal hysterectomy.   Good Luck Miranda

This sounds exactly like what I am experiencing! The cramping has been horrible, but I get told the same old things...wait until the 23rd etc etc, unless it is too intense and I have severe bleeding...yeesh!  I am glad she is feeling better now!

Hey Girl... my friend had a hysterectomy and they did hers vaginally and left one ovary.  She done great with surgery, and trust me she is not good with pain.  She also had an eblation that did not cure her problem and actually the scar tissue caused even more pain.  Keep us posted, I'll be thinking of you.
