Question about Medicare?

Any one have Medicare? How long did it take to finish the whole process of getting a date for your WLS? I know medicare doesn't preapprove anything so it is just a matter of Dr.'s office making sure you qualify and everything is in order. i guess im just getting antsy!

I know i qualify and the dr's office has my medical records. i have my appiontment with the head dr. and the dietician on aug. 16th....so im really kinda nervous,anxious,excited alled into one1 i tried to have WLS before in 2005 with Dr. david gellar but i didnt qualify. they only told me this AFTER i paid all the fees for the dieticain Ext. So i was't a happy camper. I just dont want to be disappointed or let down again. I've got co-morbiders and my body is realy feeling the strain of the extra extra extra weight! well thanks for any input and just listening to my little rant or cry or whatever the kids are calling it these days! LOL! thanks a bunch chea

I went to my consult and then quickly after my psych and nut consults between the end of january and the middle of Feb. of this year. I have yet to come close to getting a date because Dr Shina only operates out of Suburban and the paperwork awarding them as a center of excellence STILL has not come through. They were inspected and I was told they did great in Feb. It shouldnt take this long to get the papers so the ppl that award this stuff must reallyyyy be draggin butt. Hoping sometime soon they will get the paperwork so they can start scheduling us Medicare ppl for our surgery. Good luck!

Just a lil note to warn all pre and post ops. GET YOUR PROTEIN IN EVERYDAY!!! I have done rather crappy with mine since day 1 and I am paying dearly with VERY slow weight loss, major hair loss, and all out feelin like shit! PLEASE!!!! Follow your program's rules!!

Wow! thanks for telling me i had no idea they were still waiting for thier center o. excell. finalization. i am going to call the bariatric program at nortons monday and see when and if they can tell me something.

i went to www.surgicalreview.org and they have Nortons listed as being A center of Excellence. i truely hope so. With all the paperwork and test i believe we have enough to worry about without having to wait....and wait on some bur. red.tape!

Norton's is already approved but Norton Suburban where Dr Shina does all his surgery's hasnt got their approval yet.

Call his office Monday and ask how far off they are on gettin the final approval. Let me know what they tell u. I havent called this month yet but still see that Suburban isnt listed. Kinda bummed waitin so long. Goodluck to u!

I have medicare, they pay 100% to the hosiptal that they approve which is Norton's I had Dr.Allen He is just wonderful. I had my surgery June18th doing great. I started in Nov.last year and it took seven months because of waiting for Dr. Allen. He's the man that my pcp told me to go to. I now understand why. He's worth the wait. Good luck

Ok update! called dr. shinas office this morning when i asked they told me no Suburban doesnt center of excellence status and they have no idea when they will. so i explained to them how upset i was that they never bothered to tell me that medicar patients WE may have a longer wait for suburban ext. they told me it would be best to callnortons bariatrics and see if they could get me a different surgeon since they didnt know when suburbans paperwork would come through. i call the bariatric center at nortons and they told me to keep my aug. 16 appiontment for head and diet eval. and they would get me information and medical records to one of the surgeons. then the surgeons office would call me and make consult appiontment. i am so teeed teeed off that shinas office didnt bother to mention thsi little detail!!!

oh well back to the drawing board.

Isnt it so freakin great! All these months I have been waiting for this crap to go through for this.

I really like Dr Shina and was drawn to him but as the months go by I am not getting any better (health wise) and no smaller without the help I need so badly. I just wonder if we have to have another eval from the dietician and psych if its already been done. I dont wanna pay more fees. Guess I will reseacrh the other doctors that are with Nortons some more now. Keep me updated on how u end up doing with all this. Time for a surgeon hunt! lol

thanx for asnswering my question i posted earlier...you said you didnt know how this would affect medicaid, did you find out anything on it when u called dr.shina's or was what you were told for medicare only? dr. shina's office called me this morning to tell me after i fax in my last pcp weight loss supervised diet thing they would send it all in to see if i will be approved, silly blonde me forgot to ask them about the medicaid and hospital wait...

...thats why im asking u if u knew of anything, ill call then for sure tomorrow but just getting a leg up from u!

I really dont know the info on Medicaid. I would call though just in case Medicaid follows the same rule as Medicare. However Medicaid is state funded and Medicare is Fed, funded so that MIGHT make a differance.? I just couldnt believe after waiting all these months for the c.o.e that even after they were denied no one called to let me know. Looks like I am looking closer at Dr Geller. Sheesh all of this is soooo confusing. lol Plz feel free to holler anytime u need somethin. I will always try to help.
