I'm Freaking Out!!!!

Tomorrow I am going have a mediport put in and I am freaking out big time.  As a result of having so many problems after surgery, I no longer have any veins.  I have had 8 PICC lines and 2 of those have gotten infected.  My surgeon feels that a port is the best thing for me, but I am terrified.  I am afraid that this thing will get infected.  I talked to the vascular doc who is doing this surgery and he told me the chance for infection is very slight.  I cringe everytime docs say that.  Many of my complications have been very rare and "this happens to less than 2% of people", so when he tells me infection is very rare, I am skeptical.  I am feeling crummy still.  For the last 6 weeks I have puked 4-5 times a day and I am extremely nausea.  I don't think I have a stricture because I don't get sick right away.  It usually takes about 30-45 minutes after I try to eat or drink something.  I don't think my ulcer is responding to all the meds.  My stomach is killing me all the time and I am still puking up a little blood and the pain is getting a little worse each day.  It is a matter of time before I end up in the ER, but I am trying to suck it up. Has anyone else had to have a mediport?  How are you doing? Ana
