Had to call 911 on myself last night

Last night I had to call 911 and get a ambulance to come and pick me up. Well I called them around 3am this morning. I was told Sunday that I had a viral infection. I had itchy burning chest, throat, coughing up stuff. I went to the ER cause my dr isn't in on Sunday. They did chest exrays said it was clear, just a viral thing. No antibotics. Keep in mind the first of July I was put on 800mg of amoxcillian 2x a day for acute sinusitis and mucinex dm. Sunday They said to get more mucinex and some cough syrup called delsym. I did. I've been taking it and felt a little better. I went to bed around 1am, (I'm a night owl) I had taken my mucinex and delsym. I went to sleep and woke up coughing about 2:30am. I got up went to the bathroom, got a cough drop and laid back down. I felt alot of sinus pressure on the right side of my face, it felt like something burst in there right under my cheek bone, then my heart started racing and I got dizzy. I was so scared I was going to pass out. I sat on the edge of the bed with my head between my knees and called Adam at work. He kept telling me to calm down but of course I was scared. I've been lightheaded before but not that bad. He told me to check my sugar and he'd call back in a few mins. I got up and walked around and felt somewhat better. I checked my sugar and it was 171 which I thought was high. I haven't been on diabetic meds since before my gastric bypass and I don't do sugars, not often at any rate. I started getting dizzy and more lightheaded. I was scared I'd pass out and the kids would be scared. They were both asleep. So I called 911 and got them to send a ambulance. I got the kids up, Adam called back to talk to me while I waited and his dad came over to sit with the kids. While I was waiting on the ambulance I got really nauseous and felt like my chest was on fire. I just knew I was having a heart attack. It didn't last long, my chest burning like that. But it kept coming back. I went to the ER had a ekg, blood work, chest exray again. The dr says he suspects that my viral infection has settled in my ears causing me to be very dizzy and lightheaded. He says antibotics wouldn't really help and it should clear up on its own. If I'm not better by Friday I'm seeing my reg dr. He also said the burning chest was acid reflux. I've never had a feeling like that before. I take a stomach pill each morning since my gastric bypass to prevent ulcers, wouldn't u think that would help? They gave me pepcid in my IV and gave me a pill for dizziness. He gave me a prescription for something to help when I get dizzy. No driving for me for a few days till this goes away. I'm honestly thinking of calling my dr anyway. Adam works nights and I don't want to go thru this again. I was more scared of passing out and scaring the kids than anything. I was also scared something was wrong with my heart but they had monitors on me while those burning stages would happen. After they gave me that pill a nurse told me that even though they couldn't see it, each time my chest would burn, I'd get scared, breath faster and cause myself to get more lightheaded than I was. It was a scary situation for me. I am so thankful to God it wasn't my heart or something more serious.  Just thought I'd share. Anyone else had this burning chest thing or dizziness going on? The nurse told me theres a virus of the inner ear going around and meds can't tough it, it has to play out. Hugs Ange I forgot to mention, Adam left work and met me at the hospital. He was there when they opened the ambulance doors. I probably didn't need to go in but it scared the stuffing out of me and I thought it was best to be safe than sorry.

I hope u are feeling better now.  How long after the cough med and cough drop did u check ur sugar?  Alot of those things usually contain alot of sugar so that might be why u got such a high reading. Rest as often as u can and cough up that junk.  Get well soon hun.

My chest isn't burning as bad or nearly as often as last night but I'm petrified to eat! I know I have to eat but I'm scared if I eat I'll get this acid reflux thing again. I'm going to try something bland. I'm not as dizzy or lightheaded. They told me to lay off the mucinex and the delsym cough syrup. I'm not going to take any meds but my reg ones and this pill for dizziness if I need it. I called my dr's office earlier and his nurse said she's had the same thing for a week now. Not much they can do when its viral. Have u found a doc yet? I was reading your post earlier but had to lay down for awhile and didn't get to reply. I've felt pretty crappy lately and haven't been online for a few days. Sorry u r having to go thru this nonsense. Have u called any of the hospitals downtown? I believe Dr Allen operates at Nortons downtown instead of Nortons Suburban. Some of my friends had him and liked him very well.

I had called down at Norton's to see about getting my paperwork transfered there and to see about another seminar.  She was like, well u have waited long enough and there is an opening in tonights seminar, lets get the ball rollin on this.  So I took it.  I also called Dr Shina's office and asked them if they would fax all my paperwork downtown.   I think Holly is who answered.  She was so sweet and said she would do it within 15 minutes.  I know they have been messing with Medicare for a long time now and are rather annoyed with them too.

I have decided on Dr Allen and Nortons downtown has had their center of excellence certification for a while now so Medicare will cover it.  I have heard alot of negatives about his staff but great things about him and the surgeon is who I am most concerned with. lol  I know the program downtown is great.  I met the nut. and psych already and a couple of the nurses.  I just hope the paperwork is still ok with them and I dont have to start anything over. Just to think if Medicare didnt screw around with demanding the hosp be a center of excellence I would have been on the losing side many months ago. REST and take care of urself!  Many hugssssssssss

Thanks Deneen, I'm doing ok. I know what was causing it now so if it happens again maybe I won't be so scared plus I have the meds they gave me for dizziness. I'm not taking them unless I need them and hopefully I won't. Thanks Ange

Did the Dr's. or nurses say anything about an anxiety/panic attack.  I had the same symptoms about a year before my WLS.  They even did an angiogram, which turned out normal.  My Dr. put me on Lexapro and all of my wierd symptoms went away in a few days.  You did the right thing by going to the ER!  I remember it was really scarey...I was so frightened...it is the fear of the unknown! Praying for you ~ Sharen
