Welcome back sweetie.  Wish I could help but I never got the literature from Dr Shina.  I know the nut. told me he does everything differant from the other docs. Try strainin chicken noodle soup and things like that.  Tastes better then that greasy broth.  Make sure ur gettin ur water and all that in too. If you need anything, even if its findin out info u make sure u let me know.  I will help u find the info. Love and hugs. Joy

Just a lil note to warn all pre and post ops. GET YOUR PROTEIN IN EVERYDAY!!!  I have done rather crappy with mine since day 1 and I am paying dearly with VERY slow weight loss, major hair loss, and all out feelin like shit!  PLEASE!!!!  Follow your program's rules!!

Welcome home! I am so happy to here that you are doing so well! According to my Dr. you can have clear liquids or full liquids if you can tolerate them. SF jello, dc tea, soups, and so on. Congrats & God bless---Gerri

Glad your doing well Missy! After my surgery, I drank a lot of Proti-diet hot chocolate and lemon ginseng green tea. The heat felt so good on my pouch. That was pretty much my staple for the first 2 weeks. Then I was on to pureed. PP is right, the first month is the hardest. If you're anything like me, you'll mourn not being able to eat. (I still do on some levels) Good luck and if you need anything, please feel free to email me. Dee

I went with the Gen-Soy protein powder for putting one scoop in a packet of CIB made it easy to reach the 55 grams, I do eat each day.  Each scoop is 100 calories and 25 grams of protein.  I think that the powder actually has a sweet taste to it.  I still feel that way about the light soy milk I use for breakfast. Hang in there, it does get easier.  I, also, bought soy yogurt and added a scoop of the protein powder to it.  I found that with the yogurt and CIB, I almost felt like I was cheating because they tasted so good and were so thick. Good luck, RJ

Hi Missy, I am a patient advocate and have spent time with many surgeons and centers over the last 3 years.  I have to tell you to be careful of your choices as you are only one week post-op.  All surgeons have different requirements and though they are different and reach for the same long term goal..they have their reasons for doing what they do. Go back and look at what his requirements are for your first couple of weeks while on liquids, you should have received some type of a booklet or copy from a nutrition class.  I believe most surgeons are ok with Carnation instant breakfast and many patients add unjury protein powder to that or other things just to get in the protein for those first few days..watch your milk intake, I was one of those unfortunates who are a bit lactose intolerant...so if it's your first time trying it take in just a little at a time to make sure you can tolerate it..  After you are progressed to each stage it does get easier,  Just make sure you are taking in as much fluids as you can..that's so important and more so in this heat. Every dietician I know requires whey protein and not soy at all...thats very important to remember as you would be wasting money and your intake on something that is giving you very little return. Call your surgeons office and ask to speak to your dietician, I am more than sure she can help.. and as we all say...I promise it does get better!! Brenda
