So I get a call today from Dr. Sonnanstine's office staff today saying that my insurance requires a letter from my PCP basically giving their approval. When I spoke with my insurance company they had not mentioned anything about having to have a letter from my PCP. I have not seen my PCP in a long time so now I have to make an appt with them, then go there after not being there in a long time and ask them to write me a letter of approval for the lapband. I have no clue what to say to my PCP. I am so afraid they are not going to write a letter for me. Has anyone else dealth with this? Any ideas on what I should tell my PCP? I would appreciate the feedback, thanks!

I had to have a letter also. I hadnt been to the docs office in atleast 5 years if not longer. They knew my weight history so they had no probs writing a letter. Tell them that you have been looking into lapband and that you have chosen a doctor. Tell them about what your insurance requires and ask if they are willing to write the letter. Thats all i did and they wrote mine.  I wish you the best of luck!

As posted above it should not be a big deal. Let them know how far along you are in the process. If for any reason your pcp does not agree with wls seek out another doc that does and get a copy of your records sent to him/her. You are getting so close! God bless, Gerri
