I survived my first fill!

Ok, so today was my 6 week check-up and my first fill.   It was a late afternoon appointment and was fine all day until I got called back to the exam room.  I knew that my doc doesn't usually use a numbing agent (my mother is a bandster too and uses the same doc) but was attempting to be positive about it.  Since I was getting nervous I asked the nurse if he does numb for those that ask for it.  Her response was that he prefers not to since the shot to numb usually hurts just as much if not more than the actual fill (once again my mother said it wasn't any worse than any other shot you get).  I figured I was being a *****ildish about it and figured I'd try it their way THIS TIME. Well, let me just say I cussed as he did it and called my mom on the way out the door and told her she fibbed to me!!  It did hurt.  Not so much I was in misery afterwards but definately more than I was expecting.  Once the needle was in though I was fine.  He left the needle in place while he went and double checked my file (he wanted to make sure I had 4cc and not 10cc)  plus he invited a couple students in to observe.   Once he established what size I had he came back and did the fill.  When I asked how much he gave me he said "you now have 1.6cc in your 4cc band."  I was shocked as I wasn't expecting anything more than 0.5 or maybe 1.0 at the most.  He had me drink water and it went down fine.  I had a little pressure in my throat area but it didn't come back up so he said that's what he like's to hear. He then proceeded to tell me to stay on clear liquids tonight but I can go back to a reg diet in the morning!!  Now that's something that makes me nervous.  I figure i'll modify that a bit though and do mushies for a day or so and then SLOWLY work back up to a reg diet as tolerated. I've had my protein drink tonight and some crystal lite and everything is fine thus far.  I suppose the real adventure begins tomorrow.....

Hi Dawn, I'm planning to be there.  Not too sure about ballroom dancing though.  Maybe I can get my husband to come with me.  He will be a bandster too fairly soon.  Even though we are in the paperwork stage right now I can see where he might get something out of the meetings as well.  Hopefully, he will get his in the next few months.  It will be self-pay so once he clears the Bariatric Clininc it should happen quick.  He's going to go with Dr. Larson as well and he's expecting him soon. Thanks for the positive words! Becka

Band feels very normal today!  No pain or tenderness at all.  I had a scrambled egg this morning and all is well.  I'm going to try cottage cheese for lunch.  Maybe try cold shrimp for dinner and if that doesn't work i'll do canned chili.  Going back to regu;ar food today has me a bit nervous still.   I'm the third person to have WLS thus far.  Mom and I have the band.  My sis in E-town has RNY (insurance wouldn't approve band), my husband is next and possibly my father sometime next year as well. I'm sure Richard will come to the meetings with me if he can make time in his schedule.  We used to do WW together until we decided to go this route.  He's such a sweetie, we both wanted this but let me be the first to go! Well, I'm off to run errands and such for the rest of the day!  I suppose I have to earn my keep! Becka

Thank you both for the compliments on my daughter.  My Autumn Grace is without a doubt my greatest life accomplishment.  As far as her daddy and I are concerned the sun rises and sets with her.  And to think that I didn't want children at all until I was 36 years old.  Obviously, she's got "Princess Syndrome" to the Nth degree but we are hoping that with responsibility and consequences she will become a benevolent ruler to her kingdom one day (wink). It was great to get to meet both of you the other night!  I look forward to getting to know each of you better both in the meetings and online. Have a great day! Becka

so first off i would like to say you live really close to me. i live in LaGrange isn't that something. So what was the exact date you got banded. mine was on Oct. 23. i was wondering does your doc not use a numbing spray? thats what my doc uses everytime i get a fill. i have already had two fills. this is just an opinion but this is what i do after a fill the day of the fill i do liquids all day, the next day i do puree's then the third day i do soft food and then the fourth day i go back to my regular diet. from experience you dont want to go to fast with the solid food because if it gets stuck or you dont chew well it hurts like h*ll. and after both of my fills even after the fourth day sometimes i still have trouble tolerating solid food. take it slow and congratulations on your first fill. if you want to talk or have any questions just pm and i will try to help you.  Kristen

I've been scanning through this forum for a couple of days, trying to find others in Kentucky who have had the LP; it seems most folks opted for RNY. I'm near Elizabethtown myself, in Rineyville, and had my LP surgery at HMH on December 19th. So far, so good . I'll admit that I'm more nervous about the fill than I was the surgery itself!
