post op question

i just wanted to know when u are released from hospital, do they they give u liquid pain meds or regular  tabs, i am having lap rny in 2 days and i thought may be the reguler tablets  would hurt going down  just a thought  . i should/ve ask my dr but 4got

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! My doctor gave me a prescription for liquid lortab, but I didn't even fill it.  I took liquid Tylenol instead because it didn't taste as bad to me.  (I gagged on the liquid lortab in the hospital, so I knew I didn't want to try it again.)  After a few days, I started taking easy-swallow tylenol tablets, and they worked great.  I took them with hot tea.  I drank several swallows first to get my throat and my band warmed up, and I didn't have any trouble getting those tablets down. I was given my medicines in pill form in the hosp and the pain med was in pill form also. Goodluck!

When I had mine 2 years ago I was given a pill.  I broke it into tiny pieces, but I only took 1 pain pill.  Didn't really need it.  Also 2 years ago they gave me a pill crusher but I don't think they do that anymore. Jane 

I was given only pill forms of all of my meds for the house.  They aren't hard to take, and I don't even notice that they are pills.  Good luck hon!!! I am dusting a spot off right beside me!!! 

Last year when I had my surgery, I got a prescription for pain meds in the form of pills.  I used a pill cutter to cut it into small pieces and it went down fine.   I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers on the 2nd. 

When I came home, I had regular pills, I did not cut them or crush them and did fine on them. Good luck to you, and I will be praying for you. Missy

I just had my Lap band Nov. 30th with Dr Sonnanstine also. The pain meds he gave me were in pill form and when I got the prescription filled I got a pill cutter and cut them up into 4 pieces and I didn't have any problem with them. I only took them a couple of days then just went to tylenol and cut them up also. Good Luck on your surgery, and don't worry Dr. S is great. Stacey Dufrene

I had surgery the 18th and the doctor gave me the choice between pills or liquid. I chose liquid because I was having so much trouble swallowing my pills in the hospital. The good thing about the liquid is that it truly stays in your system longer, the bad thing is it doesn't taste so great. I only used it for I think 2 or 3 days. Good luck on your surgery!
