Protein help!!! 4 days post op
I had my surgery Monday, Everytime I try to make something with the unjury powder I just cant seem to drink it. I think the taste is nasty. Since Monday the only protein I have gotten was 3 oz of cottage cheese and chicken broth. Thats it. Help! I did buy CIB in chocolate. I just tried to make a smoothie with diet v8 splash, ice, and unflavored Unjury, Yuk! Couldnt do it. How can I get my protein in.

I got some powder from walmarts called body fortress whey protein in vanilla. I put it with some fat free milk, I havent tried the super skim yet, everyone says it is really good, maybe you could get a shaker at walmarts, i think they are like 2.44 and the powder, mix it with 6 to 8 oz. of milk and it is pretty good, I haven't had surgery yet, probably have it in a little over 2 weeks. I see the surgeon Monday to schedule. this protein has like 26 grams a serving, the big jug will say 52grams, but that is for 2 scoops. you mix one scoop with the milk. kinda tasts like melted vanilla ice cream,

p.s. good luck, and from all the meetings I went to, try try try to get your protein in.
Hi Jill,
I never cared for the unflavored Unjury. Personally....it's all I could taste in whatever I added it to. Do you have chocolate or vanilla in Unjury? Try adding that to the CIB to make a shake. Or adding it to sugar free pudding.
Now I like Isopure from GNC. I didn't 'discover' it until months after my surgery and still use it. The chocolate is really good (just make sure to get low carb).
Just be careful about buying protein powders. We both go to Dr. Tom....and I know that there are certain types of protein powders/sources that are preferred over others because of the quality of the protein. Get out the list from your taste testing and see if there's anything on there that you tried and might like to consider trying again rather than the Unjury. Or give the office a call and see if they have any suggestions of what you can do.
I got to the point that I knew I had to drink the protein shakes to stay healthy in those first few weeks after surgery....so I'd hold my breath as I drank them just to get them down. I knew it wouldn't last forever that I'd be drinking them...but that I needed the nutrition that they were giving me so I did it. My 'shake' was 3oz of skim milk and one scoop of strawberry or chocolate Unjury. It'd make a four ounce shake.....I'd hold my breath and drink it. Then make the most god-awful faces for 5 minutes afterward!

I havn't had surgery yet, but I have used Isopure Dutch Chocolate in the past and liked it. All protein drinks have a strange taste to them, but some flavors will hide it better that others. You might also want to get an individual bottle of the ready to drink zero carb and try it. They are 20 ounces, 160 Calories, and 40 grams protein (remember protein is 4 cal. per gram). Plus it will count as a water intake too. So that is something you can sip on all day.

Hi, Have you tried the Unflavored Unjury in chicken broth or beef broth.Don't get the broth too hot or it will clumb. It's normal at this point for everything to taste awful, but it will get better. Any soup will work if you just drain the liquid off and use it only. Sometimes they have more flavor. Remember to eat (or sip)slowly. I also order the Vanilla Unjury and mix with decaf coffee and sugar-free syrups ( kinda like a cappachino). Just keep trying to get your protein and water in at this point. Good luck!!!! Becca
Jill it is tough for some people. I had great luck with the unjury but my sisters hated it. I use a hand held mixer. I just drank a protein shake. I am now using the body fortres from Wal mart. But I loved tomato soup with the unflavored. Just make sure to get it really mixed up. That is where the hand held mixer comes in handy. Just try diffrent things. Don't get to far out call the office and let them know. Alot of times they may have a sample you can try. They get so expensive. You are probably still on liquids. Special K makes the protein powder to add to water. Only 4 gr but hey its water. It will add up if you drink your eight glasses a day. Good luck it gets easier. Don't beat yourself up these first few days. Its a huge adjustment.
Hang in there

i also had a very hard time at first! but it really helped when i used the medicine cups. set a timer and every few mins take a "shot", it sounds crazy but it will work. also i used the ready to drink adkins shakes... chocolate royale and vanilla ( the only protein drinks i have been able to tolerate EVEN NOW!!) This will also work for getting in your water... My husband sat with the timer (for fluids) and every 15 mins i would have to drink 30 cc's! it kept me from getting that too full feeling and increased the amount of liquids i consumed in one day! try it! good luck to you! this is the hardest part of the journey I think!
