Hi, it was hard for me to walk in the beginning too, I just walked back and forth in my house for a long time, The gas is aggravating, I was told to lay on your side, I was told it has something to do with the way your intestines run in your body, and it helps the gas get out better. I still do that and it seems to work, just keep drinking as much water as you can get in, maybe try a recliner? I was glad once I was able to get back in the bed though cause it's alot more comfortable than a recliner as far as sleeping goes. Hope this helps, Hang in there cause it will get much better in time. Take care

Hi Lisa, I don't know why you would feel like your throat is about to close off.. Unless thats a side effect of being intubated.. I'm not entirely sure about that one. I would say call your doc. As far as gas, keep walking... I hear that walking will help you get it out... Don't be discouraged that you haven't lost any weight yet.. You're probably still slightly full of fluids from the IV. Continue to sip, sip sip and drink protein shakes as well. You may not be able to walk for long periods of time but it is important to walk every few minutes for each hour that you're awake. It keeps the blood flowin' and helps prevent clots. Perk up, the new few weeks will be an adjustment but once it's over you'll feel so much better! Katrina

Hi Lisa, I'm sorry to hear you are very miserable.  Hopefully, it won't last long and you'll be up and about in no time!  Have you called your MD yet?  That would be my first move.  When in doubt call the doc, regardless of what time it is!   Is Gas-X allowed for RNY patients?  I lived on those my first week after my lap band as the gas was a constant for me too.  Also, I slept in my recliner for a few days after my surgery (for an older hernia repair too) so there wouldn't be any pulling on m sutures but maybe being upright will help the sensation of choking a bit too. My sis was fairly miserable right after her RNY last May (she had a 5 day hospital stay) but she had developed an ulceration in her stomach lining with some reflux added in.  Took about a month to figure out what the problem was but once the doc figured it out she's been doing great. Don't fret about the weight yet.  You are still swollen!  Just think skinny thoughts and plan your summer! And in case your thinking it....yes, it was worth it!!!!   (LOL...3 of us in our family have had WLS and ALL of us said at one point  "Good Lord, what have i done to myself?!?!.......")

Hey there, I am so sorry to hear you are still having problems.  I took Gas-X or a similar pill for a few days when I got home.  I can not sleep on my back or my throat closes but I do well on my side.  You may need to propr up or sleep in a recliner for a while.  Never hesitate to call the surgeon.  You had major surgery and if something doesn't seem quite right CALL them.  It's your body - you know when something's not quite right.  GOOD LUCK!  GET WELL SOON -- it will be worth it!!
