Cars, vans, etc.

Hello everyone, I recently sold my car, a 2002 Chevy Cavalier LS, it was loaded... loved it, but guess what, Cavaliers aren't exactly designed around 6'1" 575 lb. guys.  I could actually drive it OK but getting in and out... well I have been asked, #1 if i cut the top off and sit down in it, #2 if I grease myself up good in the mornings, and #3, did I just grow inside the car.  Some rude, some funny.  Anyhoot, I had to sell my car and now I need something bigger and more comfortable.   I am looking for a minivan preferrably for the height and storage.  Does anyone have experience in being very large and car hunting?  I need help... as I try out different vehicles I am going to record it on a new website I am working on.  There should be sites out there that compare cars, airplanes, etc for big people.  But what I have seen is totally useless.  I want photos, dimensions, stories, etc. Any help would be awesome! I'm 6'3" 365 and had a Mazda Tribute (Ford Escape) that was fairly roomy and there was little step up for me (I could slide right onto the seat).  It was wrecked and now I have an 07 Impala w/ bucket seats (Comfy once I'm in, height issues).    Also look into a Equinox or the new Outlook/Arcadia thats out.  My dad's friend who is probably the same size as you has a Ram pickup.  Car based utes would probably be best though, lower step up than traditional suv's. Good luck, I hate car shopping.

Thanks for the advice.. I remember having sit in an Escape once in the driver seat and it was comfortable.  They aren't that expensive to buy decently used, and some that can be rebuilt are even better. I haven't tried a new Impala but i have sit in a recent model Grand Prix and ONCE IN was the big issue... the car was comfortable to me but I barely could bend my kneck enough to get in. I am currently driving an 1995 F150, with the seat laid back some.  If it were a regular cab I couldn't drive it.  My biggest issue with it right now is that a problem I have with my leg being swollen some and sore, its uncomfortable in that area.  plus the gas... about $60 a week.  Ouch.

My husband is 6'0" and about 300lbs.  When we went shopping for a new car he felt the newer crossover styles worked great.  They are not too tall so you don't have to climb into it and they are neither too low to the ground to where you feel like you are lowering yourself into it.  We looked at the Chrysler Pacifica and the Cadillac SRX.  We stopped at the SRX since he fell in love with it.  It has tons of stomach room and the pedals adjust as well as the seat for longer legs.  We've had it for about a year now and are very happy. We had a Mazda Tribute (Escape) prior to this and while it was comfy it was kinda small.  He also drives a Dodge Caravan for work which works well for his size too.   His F250 is just plain huge and we really don't drive that one a lot but it's certainly roomy!

Would the Chevy Caravan you mention be the Chevy Venture?  I have looked into trying one but haven't had the chance.  Anyone out there that has experience with these vans and their size please let me know... thanks!

Nope, i'm just female and got my makers confused!  I corrected my typo earlier, I guess you had already read the post by then.  It's a Dodge Caravan XST and the one he just got rid of was a Grand Caravan (I liked that one best and we even comfortably drove it to FL one year).... My husband owns his own business and the other van for his employees is a Chevy Astro.  I personally hate this van.  It's not comfy at all but it is a workhorse so it's perfect for what it's intent is.  Guess that's where I got the makers turned around.

Hello, I drive a Chevy Venture Van and LOVE it!  At my largest I was 286 and I'm only 5' 5 1/2 " but it seems very, very roomy beyond what I need.  I have really bad knees and can not hardly get in and out of cars but the Venture is not a problem at all.  We bought ours new in 1998 anhd it's still going strong!  GOOD LUCK!
