Is BMI enough to have surgery?

Hey all! I have been wanting to have WLS and I was wondering if my BMI is high enough. By the BMI calculator it is but, i'm afraid my insurance won't cover it.  I have KY medicaid and Humana through work..my bmi is 36.1 Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

i don't know exactly how tall you are, but most of them requires you to be atleast 100 pounds over weight. you have no no co-morbities, they may not do it.  like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestrol. etc.  bad heart.

I think with Humana you have to be 40 or above or have 2 or more co -problems. I have Humana and I know they require a 6 month weight management program.

Most ins. and dr. will do surgery at 40 BMI regardless of current health issues; however, if you are below 40 BMI you must have a co-morbid conditions i.e. high BP, sleep apnea, diabetes.....in almost all cases.  I know Humana requires these because this is my insurance carrier and I believe KY medicaid does as well...Hope this helps.
