I have completed my pre-op test(s).  The last one was today.  I hope my pcp can get all paper work back in to Dr Tanner by the end of next week... i am so ready to get my appointment for surgery..  ----i just wanted to share with everyone... and get caught up on message board.. Hope everyone doing well... happy birthday becka--- celebrated one of those earlier this month. ( i am a little older, but none the wiser) ---i  made good progress for approval  with humana insurance--just have to learn what hoops have to be jumped thru and then proceed

i have one quick question, maybe you all can answer for me---from some material i have read..some wls recipients have gone on liquid diets prior 2 wks before scheduled surgery and i have talked with some that did not have to do this...from what i have read, surgery little easier by doing this....does anyone know what physician(s) with norton surigcal group recommend ?

Hooray!  You're getting closer & closer to your surgery and you're gonna love it!  I was not required to do the 2 weeks of liquids before surgery, only the day before.  But I cut way back on my food intake and in that 2 weeks, I lost about 7-8 pounds.  Hope everything continues to go smoothly for you- keep us posted!

Hi there and thanks for the Birthday wishes! Things should start moving pretty quickly for you now!  I'm not sure how booked Dr. Tanner is compared to the others though (I hear Allen is six months booked already!).  Are you doing the band or RNY?  I know he does both.  He did my sister's RNY and I will see her today and ask her which pre-op diet he has his patients do.  I don't know if it's different for the diff WLS though! I didn't have a pre-op diet with Dr. Larson (same surgical group but he's up on the 7th floor) other than liquids 24 hours prior and NPO after midnight.  Each doctor does thing their own way.  I didn't have to do the post-op two weeks fluids and two weeks mushies before going back to real food either.  I was put back on puree/mushies at day five and told to slowly progress to solids beginning on day eleven.  You may find that what the surgeon wants and what the basic WLS packet you received from the bariatric group says may conflict.  I gemerally go with what my doc says when that happens. From what i've read on OH the pre-op diet is intended to shrink the liver and make things more easily accessible for the surgeon.  I've read where the same thing can be achieved if you do the old Atkins version high protein diet and you can still have solids that way.  I never did it myself so I couldn't really tell you anything more than that. Anyway, good luck and keep us updated!!

You have to watch the Adkins high protein diet if you have any kidney issues it can put you into failure.  After having been on dialysis myself...you don't want to go there.  Best to ask your doc.

With my Dr. it was nothing by mouth after midnight the night b4. Some docs have you do the liquids so your liver is smaller.  It is really up to your Doc.  I wish you luck. Amy K
