 I NEED SOME INFO....
HAD LAPBAND 3 WKS AGO TODAY.... I HAVE WENT TO POST OP APPT (FIRST).... I HAVE 2ND APPT ON SEPT 5TH .... DR TANNER WILL START FILLING BAND...I HAVE BEEN PONDERING AND I DECIDED I NEEDED TO ASK ?
QUESTION IS---
WHAT HAPPENS AT THIS STAGE?
I ASSUME IT IS A GRADUAL FILL,, BUT WHAT DETERMINES HOW MUCH...?
I HAVE NOT HAD ANY REAL DIFFICULTY SWALLOWING OR DRINKING/EATING AT THIS STAGE, SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO ANTICIPATE..

I didn't have Dr. Tanner so I don't know his style.  Some are aggressive and some are gradual.  Mine was gradual.  I got about 2cc the first time and it made a difference in the things I could eat.  I did not have difficulty drinking.  I would not worry.  Call and ask what type fills he gives.  Take care,

Z

Although I haven't read the information myself, Inamed has a recommended fill schedule for each of their band sizes and I would imagine Realize does as well.  It's up to the doctor to decide how closely he sticks to this schedule or not.

I have a 4cc band and I think I got 1.6cc on the first fill.  My husband has a 10cc band and he got 3cc on his first fill.

It's not typical for people to notice much difference on the first fill or two although it does happen!
You might try to post a new thread with Dr. Tanner's name inthe post....might flush out more responses that way.

After the fill you'll be on liquids/mushies for a while but then again it's up to the doctor's discretion!  Dr. Larson tell us to do liquids for the rest of the day then back to solids in the morning.  Dr. Rodiguez has his patients do 2 days of fluids and 2 days of mushies then back to solids.  Dr. Shina has his people do 2 weeks fluids then 2 weeks mushies!  Wouldn't it be nice if all the docotr's in one bariatric group could be on the same page??

WOW, some docs actually put you back on liquids and mushies that long after a fill?  Oh well, guess you have a weight loss for sure after every  fill .  LOL

Cathy,
I did ask Dr Tanner about his fill opinions and he said he is conservative. He likes to fill up slowly. That sounded good to me

Yep, the Shina info comes from Dawn who is one of his band patients.

Mine's the other extreme though!  Even though he says to go back to solids the next day I actually do mushies for a few days until I get my nerve up to test it!!

yes. Dr.Shina is very by the book. We start over each and every fill.
The first  fill that wasn't hard to do...  The second one ohhh golly.
My first fill was 3.0 cc's like becca's husband and The seocnd was to have been 2cc's but i didnt want it all.
So Im assuming there is a protocal for fills by Inamed!!
See how quick your time goes after your banded!!!
good luck

Thank for responding... i just did not really know what to expect.. --every now and then when i eat , i fill like i have swallowed a pill and just can't quite get it all the way down.... i don't know if this is due to the  band. ( guess i have not yet identified how the band is working..) i guess that just part of being a "newbie"...again thanks for you input...really appreciate the info...thanks,cathy
