Researching from Owensboro
Hello! I'm looking into Lap Band and was wondering if there was anyone else from Owensboro on here. I am looking to go to a seminar in September in Louisville and was told to come to this website and research. You all have been so informative! I've been lurking for a few days now and you all have me so excited about my decision to do this. Can't wait to get to know all of you more!

I would only suggest that before you do anything you research ALL forms of weight loss surgery thoroughly. Make up your mind based on what you will be able to live with successfully for the rest of your life. That being said - I have to say that I love this community because we are supportive of each other regardless of the surgery type we chose. What a great place for advice. Best of luck to you on your research, please feel free to contact me anytime if you need help.
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hi Kelly...while I know nothing about Owensboro, I would at least like to welcome you to the Kentucky insane asylum...I mean board! We have alot of great people on here...new and old....and always have room for more!
Hi Kelly. Welcome to the board!!!! I dont know much about Owensboro but Vicki is right just research, research, research till you know whats right for you!! Which ever Doctor you pick, They are all good or they wouldnt be doing this job..
My coaching to you is this...
1) see how far apart your fills have to be.. Dr.Shina for instance is two months.. not sure about the others...
2) see how hard it is to get in to see them.. I can usually call Holly and Get in the next week.. Dr Allen I have heard is A BUSY man...
3) how long out you have to wait for your surgery.... I have heard some are booking 6 months out??? not sure how true that is..
4) Try to attend a support group meeting to hear about the different doctors from there best critics.. the patients who see them..
5) make sure you set a appointment to meet with them and make sure you like their bedside manner and their personality!!!
6) GOOOD LUCK!!!!!
7) make sure if you go to Jewish to there Seminar you listen to the dollars part of the pitch.. They will not take insurance payout,. you pay them up front and then you may get half that back and you may not!! They dont tell people that at the seminars.. I went there and so did a girl at work..
if we can answer anything for you let us know!!!!
We all have different doctors that I know of.. And Vicki can tell you all about DS... I never knew it existed before I had surgery!!!

Hi Kelly,
I live in Providence but I had my surgery in Mayfield. The Bariatric Group of Drs. Oldham and Weiss are great and do a lot of work in Louisville area too. The staff is very informative and easy to access. If you need more info, let me know.

Thank you all for replying! I've decided to attend a seminar in Louisville on September 9th (it works best with my schedule). It's with the Louisville Surgical Bariatric Associates (Lusco, Olsofka) at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth's Center. I have to call them tomorrow and register for it. I'm encouraging my husband to go with me. (He's a laid back guy and just wants me to do whatever will make me happy.) Don't you all think he needs to go with me? I feel like I'm going to recieve a lot of information and need someone there to help me process it on the way home.
Anyway, thank you all for your advice, or offer of later advice. I may be contacting you all after the seminar!

I asked my bf to go and he was amazed at the whole porcess. It helps them to be as informed as you since they are taking this journey with you.
If he is supportive then kudos to him. While my bf was amazed, he also has not been supportive and basically tries to sabotage my loss! he is a poop..to put it nicely....but I am learning to dodge his moves!
