Lake Cumberland Hospital & Dr. Husted
I am researching Dr. Husted in Somerset, Ky for a DS for my husband and son, I understand that he sends to Lake Cumberland Hospital and was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with that hospital. Also, do you know anything about the hotels in Somerset as we will be needing to stay for 10 days following surgery. If you have any comments about Dr. Husted, I would like to hear them too. Thanks. Mr. Entertainment (my banded hubby) was raised in Somerset/Burnside so we get down there a lot. The hospital itself is on the smaller side but the last time we were there (about 10 months ago) they were ondergoing a massive renovation (all the way down to the rooms) so it could be bigger and offer more services by now. I'm not sure what it's capacity and extent of services are though. Many of his aunts, uncles and grandparents have had to go to Lexington (bigger hospital) or Columbia for services not available at Lake Cumberland. I will say though that I was ALWAYS impressed with the direct care staff. Always pleasant and attentive!
As far as the hotels, we prefer to stay at the Hampton Inn (ALWAYS clean) which I think runs about $80 a night. Not bad, but for 10 nights that's a huge chunk. There's also a Holiday Inn Express that we have stayed at which isn't very clean IMO (that way a couple of years ago though). Given that it's a tourist economy down there (boating season is their busiest time) it could be a little cheaper in the cold months. There are several other hotels to pick from though. As far as shopping and restaurants they have the typical selections of a small/medium sized town. It's a dry county so that does keep some of the bigger franchises away.

I have heard NOTHING but great things about Dr. Husted. Everyone says that he is interested ni his patients and really listens to them instead of just treating them like a "patient". You should get in touch w/ Lori she will answer any question you have about him. From what I understand she has worked with local hotels to get discounts for patients.. Dr. Husted is the doctor from Kathy's story and big John's story on Discovery Health..

I don't know about the hospital, but Dr. Husted is awesome. I feel so lucky that I was one of his last California patients! He is honest & supportive & intelligent. I trust him with my life! (Obviously since he did my surgery!) His staff is also awesome! I traveled 4 hours to have my DS & went home the day I was released from the hospital. Good luck with your decision! Call Lori at his office, she is the best!

I didn't attend the new patient seminar, but I'm thinking of going to one, just to hear it all over again.
I agree, Lake Cumberland Hospital is okay......this is the only part of my journey that I'm not crazy about. That said, I really think Dr. Husted will do his best to make sure the team is completely up to speed on everything they need to know. My confidence is in him.
