Newly banded
My name is Trina and I was banded last Friday (10/3) I think I have chatted with a few of you on here before. I hang out on the lapband forum a lot but they get a little overwhelming over there sometimes. Dawn invited me over here so here I am!!! So far I have lost about 11 pounds. I am doing good with everything except the occassional "head" hunger. I tend to want what my family is having for dinner!! I am still on just liquids though. Today I cheated a little had some yogurt and some thicker pea soup ( about 1/2 cup). But I needed something to get me through the day. How long did you all have to stay on the liquid phase. Some people have told me they were just on it for a few days. Dr. Geller says 1 week. I want some mushies!!! I go back to work on Monday for the first time since we have been on Fall break all week and I am dreading that first day back!! Seems like through the day I am either hungry or nauseous. I have still been taking some phenergan during the day. I think I have pinpointed the sick feeling to the vitamins though. I will make sure to start taking them with my soup and see if that helps tomorrow. I look forward to getting to know all of you and I am hoping to make it to a support group soon (this week If I can swing it). By the way I live in Brandenburg which isn't too far from Louisville. I am 43, I have 6 children and live on a small farm. My children are Misty (26 married with 2 boys and live in Louisville), Rony 20 (in college and bounces back and forth between here and his dads in Oldham County), Jackie (16, a junior in high school), Garren (15, currently residing in a youth development center for behavior problems), Tamara (14, 8th grader) and Devin (9, 4th grader). We adopted Devin when he was 5 months old in 1999. We adopted Garren and Tamara (biological brother and sister) when they were 6 and 7 in 2001. Garren came with some problems that we are working on so right now he is a big stress factor ( I am a stress eater!!) but I am working through it. I work in a middle school and coach intramural cheerleading. My husband is a disabled war veterane and is very supportive of my journey with the lap band!!! Well, That's my life in a nut shell.
Hi Trina and welcome to the KY board!
Things are a little slower and laid back on here! No real snarky debates to weed through (although those can be entertaining if you aren't in the thick of it) and we have a good mix is surgery types chiming in so it's not all band 24/7. Many of us are Norton's gals too so we get to see each other at the monthly support groups and other places when we get a mind to party! Maybe you could join us!
Try taking the vits with food. Hubby (banded in 4/08) has the same problem and that works for him. I take viactiv as my supplement and don't notice anything but then again I take a daily zantac so maybe that helps mask things.
Mine and hubby's surgeon is Dr. Larson and he does progress his patients through the food stages a bit quicker than Dr. Gellar does so long as there aren't any red flags. Both of us were put back on mushies at day five. I was told to go to solids at day 11 and I think hubby was told roughly the same. I do think that slows down the initial weight loss though.
I wouldn't fret over the yogurt and pea soup too much. Hubby lived on blended (and thinned down) Campbell's veggie beef and bean-n-bacon soup those first few days. I was a tomoato soup girl myself!
WOW!! you have a housefull! My hat's off to you! I'm one of those older moms. I'm 42 and have a 5 year old and that's it! Hubby and I always remind ourselves that we are technically old enough to be her grandparents as some days we can feel it! She keeps us young though!
I'm headed to bed now but wanted to welcome you to the board first!

But I have a lot of friends that waited to have kids and they now have kids my grandson's ages. I had mine young. Well, I look forward to meeting you, if not thiw week, then I will def try to make the next meeting.
Hi Trina!!!!! welcome to the Ky board... I usually hang out here more often than not.. I do lurk on the other band board but it gets to wild for me... I think it's better to hang out with your surgeons patients... that way you get the advice that he/ she would give....

Welcome to the board Trina! Glad to see ya on here! I have a 17 yr old (that made me a grandmother 6 months ago) and a 15 yr old so my hats off to you for juggling 4 more than me! I could not handle anymore than what I have. The 17 yr old is in trouble lately on a weekly basis. And I wonder where all the gray hair is coming from! Lol...I am ...omg I hate to say it...turning 45 on Tuesday. I never thought I would be that age. When I was in my teens I thought that 45 was so old. Now I do not feel 45...but I just hate the number ya know! You will like this board. I go on the other board sometimes, but the drama gets too high school sometimes and there are too many people on there that are too quick to jump on the wrong word that might be said. So I just peek in from time to time and take it more as entertainment. Hope we get to meet ya sometime! Maybe at the support group meeting or at Becka's festival?! This group has literally been a true support system for me. I hope we can be that for you as well!

Welcome Trina,
Just thin your soup down with water and it is perfectly legal for full liquids. The soups really helped me get through the liquid stage. You do have the makings for stress with that many young ones at home. Although, none live with me , I have the other end of the spectrum, Mother 86,MIL, 88,aunt 77, they keep me hopping and wanting to eat too.lol

Hello, Trina! I'm Kelly and live in Owensboro. I have 3 kiddos: Rosemary 7, Geoffrey 3, John 9 months. I haven't had Lap band yet, but am beginning my process. I have chosen Dr. Gellar to do mine. I have to do the 6 month diet for insurance, so I won't be banded until after the beginning of next year. I have my first appointment with them on Thursday. I'm so excited to get started!
I am a Family Resource Coordinator in one of our Elementary schools. I'm hoping to coordinate my surgery with Spring Break...we'll see!
Welcome to the KY board. I like this board a lot better than the general Lap Band board. People here are friendly and seems like they are very close. I've asked several questions, and someone is always there to answer!
Nice to meet you and I look forward to seeing you on the board!
