I am wondering if you have heard anything about not having to drink protein after you have lapband now, my brother went to a seminar Thursday night, and he understood that you don't have to drink it now, I was just wondering if he is mistaken?

I guess it depends on the surgeon and program but I never understood why Bandsters had to drink protein shakes anyway.  Bandsters dont malabsorb so I dare say they would be fine without drinking them.  They should be fine if they get their protein in from  foods for the weight loss part of it. ;-)
Best of luck.

Edited to fix my many wording screw ups! lol

I do still drink it in the mornings. but no we dont have to.. As long as we get in out protein amounts with food.. I do it to give me a lil higher proteing amounts, hoping my hair will grow!!! So yeah some docs dont want you to drink it because of the calories...
  Good luck to your brother!!

HI Lee Ann!  Things could better.  We suddenly very unexoectanly lost Daddy Sept 14th.  He was 63.
Its been really hard on all of us.  "They" say in time it gets easier but Im not so sure about that yet!
As for my weight loss.. Ive lost lots of fat and inches but the weight loss is painfully slow.  Part of which is my fault...
But Im having some tummy issues now to see going through testing.
Wish me luck and keep me and my family in your prayers.  We could sure use them.
Hugsssss

Just a lil note to warn all pre and post ops. GET YOUR PROTEIN IN EVERYDAY!!!  I have done rather crappy with mine since day 1 and I am paying dearly with VERY slow weight loss, major hair loss, and all out feelin like shit!  PLEASE!!!!  Follow your program's rules!!

I just finished up my nut requirement and the only protein shakes i need to drink will be in the first weeks following surgery when im on full liquids they recommend protein shakes then to help with hunger etc but from what i have read meat isnt tolerated for a long time after the lap band i actually would rather have a protein shake than fix breakfast lol so i will have at least one a day i dont mind them to bad i doctor them up and they are pretty good...i cant wait until i get me band im so excited

Hmmmmmm......I thought we would have to. The dietician at our monthly meetings always talked about different ways to use the protein powders--in shakes and food. But she never mentioned that the LapBand patients wouldn't have to use them. But that is something I am going to ask just to make sure. We were told as a group that we had to get 70 grams of protein in per day (for women). I guess that is the best way to get all of that in without having to eat so much. Good question!
