Now that I have had my surgery, I want to take it a step further and join a gym. Anyone know of a good one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I live in the Germantown/Highlands area if there is one near by.

Hi John,

I think the YMCA gives a person the best value for their money.  You have access to SO MANY things from weight machines to areobics classes to swimming fitness just to name a few selections.  Through January 9th they are waiving their join fee and only charging their monthly fee which is $52 for an individual adult or $80 for a family.  The really cool part is that you can go to ANY area YMCA.  Their offerings differ from one location to the other.  My family usually utilizes three sites.  The local one for my daily workouts.  The downtown one for my hubby's raquetball games and the NorthEast one in the summer for their outdoor waterpark.

I'm not sure how that price compares to some of the other offerings out there though.  Here's a link to their site if you want to find out more:

John, great idea joinning the gym! I go to Baptist East Milestone and LOVE it!   Used to go to Norheast Y when I worked close by and for most part enjoyed it. While it costs about $20 more a month than Y, it's larger and is more adult oriented than Y and  Milestone's probably the closest full scale gym to my home- it's all in what you're looking for.  You might want to check out the gym in the Highlands there at Bardstown & Baxter.  It's across from the Starbucks.  I've not been in there, but there's always a lot of cars there and may be close to where you live- when I get the name of it, I'll get back to you.  Happy gym hunting!

I don't live in L'ville, but we have 24hours fitness in our area and that is really great for people with an odd schedule. My friend uses them, and likes it very much.

good luck
