Anyone watching the Biggest Loser?

Hey all!!  I have been a fan of the Biggest Loser since the beginning.  I used to sit and watch the show while eating a big bowl of Ice Cream and felt sorry for those poor people working their butts off.  I would then cry when someone was voted off and when you get to see their "after" pictures and how good they looked.  Then the guilt would sink in and I would feel bad for sitting on my fat butt while these people were doing something productive and changing their lives!!  Now, I watch the show and am so proud and my tears comes from know exactly how they feel as they are losing the weight. Granted, I didn't get my butt kicked by those trainers and I didn't lose my weight the same way...but we all know that it is still hard.  This was not the "easy" way out...RIGHT?  Everyone with me?
Last night, the season premier began.  This guy is on the show and he is almost 400 pounds.  He had RNY and didn't lose the weight.  "This is his final attempt".  He visited the doctor on the show and they showed him his stomach, which was still the size of an egg by the way.  The doctor made a comment like...  "See THESE surgeries aren't the answer".  It was SO negative and I found myself very disappointed and frustrated with my beloved show.  I am only 2 years out.  I KNOW that the weight can come back.  I KNOW that people DO lose sight and for whatever reason, the surgery doesn't work for them...or it doesn't work anymore.  However, instead of blaming "These surgeries" shouldn't the person be held accountable?  Where was the accountability to him?  He has the stomach the size of an egg and yet he weighs almost 400 pounds.  For my own ignorance...can someone explain HOW that is possible and what does a person have to do in order to do this?  I would think that it would take CONSTANT eating of HIGH FAT foods.  Am I right?  Ok....anyone else see this.  Was anyone else as offended by the negativity as I was?

To me, this show is unrealistic all the way around. They show these Obese and SMO people in the most negative light. Of course they have watched the show before so they know what they're signing up for.  If you follow up with people from the original season and seasons past you will see most people have put weight back on, a significant amount at that.
In regards to this being the easy way out, yeah for the first year it was simple. Of course going through surgery to lose weight by any means isn't easy ... but the first year was. After that, it gets difficult and that's when the real work begins.
I think that surgeries do fail, sometimes it is because of the patient, and sometimes it is something with the surgery itself  (  stomas enlarge, staple line disruptions, etc).. There are a lot of reasons for someone to gain weight besides blaming themselves. When weight gain is because of a person's non-compliance it is generally not because of the stomach size but the stoma size. Even though his stomach is the size of an egg, the stoma is probably enlarged allowing everything to spill into his intestines.
I have put on weight since surgery and I can tell you it doesn't take CONSTANTLY eating high fat foods to do so. I wasn't offended by the negativity of the show at all. For some people, these surgeries simply are not the answer.

Thank you so much...that does help me to understand about the stoma enlargement.  I didn't know about that part of it.  It just really scared the heck out of me.  I am very fortunate to be involved with a doctor that has a really strong after care program.  I think that is a pretty important part of all of this.  I looked at this man and I DID sympathize with him...I sympathize with anyone that is that large.  I didn't mean to sound like I was "blaming" him really.  I was just wondering if I was the only one out there that thought it was offensive in the negative tone of "these surgeries".  Maybe I am just sensitive because I feel that alot of people out there don't understand what we have gone through and the struggles we still have and always will have.  They hear this and it fuels their negativity about surgery and people that have it.  I do commend these contestants in working out like this.  OMG...I would DIE!!  I hate that when they are at their largest, they have to take off their shirts and expose themselves that way just to get on a scale and see how big they are.  It breaks my heart.  I would NEVER have wanted to stand in front of America in a sports bra at my heaviest.  However, as they shrink down and get more fit and lean, they get to wear shirts when they weigh in...does that make sense?  Like I said, I DO love the show and like a train wreck, I will continue to not be able to divert my eyes.  I will continue to cry.  I will continue to feel their pain.  I also understand that surgery is not the answer for everyone.  I am still trying to figure out HOW to not gain it back.  To me, maintaining is way harder than losing was.  It is so easy to fall back into old habits.  I am just scared to death!!  Thanks for helping me to understand a bit better...that was what I was looking for!!

I am a biggest loser addict!! I love the show, and am wondering if the man that had rny, may have thyroid problems, my x husband, ballooned up and gained like 100 pounds in 3 months, and it was his thyroid gland, and now he is on meds, but still big.
I can eat anything right now, but if i gain a pound i make sure I watch what i eat for a few days, and make sure it comes back off, I just gained through Christmas, eating crap I shouldn't have, but I am back to doing good now!! I am worried about the future, but if I can stay focused, and start exercising this spring, I think I will be ok.
and you guys are right, these are the biggest contestants I have seen on there, I felt sorry for the man that collapsed last night,  it is heart wrenchign to see what we can become

I love the show too.  I did hear the doctor tell the man that's the surgeries wasn't the answer.  But for some reason, what was going through my mind was the man ate around his pouch the same way that I can eat around my band.  And I was saying to myself, "If you don't eat the way you should the rest of your life, this could happen to you."  It was a wake up call for me too because I don't ever want to gain this weight back.  I guess it made me more committed to my weight loss.

I used to want to be on the biggest loser before I had surgery.   I hate I missed it the other night.
I don't like any of the publicity that refers to wls as the easy way out.  Losing weight no matter what method is tough and keeping it off is even harder.

Gaining scares me.  I don't want to go back to where I was.

I stay within a 2 lb. range right now.  I am trying to maintain as I really don't want to lose anymore - but then I think - maybe I should lose more in case I start gaining!!!!!  OMG  It is enough to drive me crazy.

I do what Lisa does......I keep a close watch and simply MAINTAIN.  I weigh in about 1x a week now.

I love this show...it shows every aspect on there! Weight loss surgery failures are no different than any other diet failures. They did a good thing by putting it out there..even if people take it as a negative. I did not care for the comment, but let's face it...alot of people think the surgery is the cure all and that once they have it they will not have to diet or modify their lifestyles and food choices and that the surgery does it all for them. This brings into light the aspect that that is false and that you really have to commit to it and work it!  Kudodsto them for even going on the show and showing that they failed at it. That takes alot of balls!  It is a reality show after all!
