Pre-Surgery Cold Feet...BRRRR!

This weekend I was viciously attacked by a stomach virus, and during my times of feeling so badly, I  had strong doubts about whether I wanted to go through with my lapband surgery scheduled for 1/30/09.  My thoughts were 1) If I can stick to what is required to be successful with the lapband, why couldn't I just do the same without it.  2)  What if after getting the lapband my surgeons decide to no longer come to this end of the state - how would I get fills or to whom would I go with problems - since my understanding is that no one else wants to touch another surgeon's lapband patients.

But, I finally reconciled myelf to the fact I really need a  HUGE boost to get myself headed on a weight LOSS journey, and if the surgeon is not going to be accessible, I always have the option to have the lapband removed before he discontinues his practice.

Cold Feet and Mixed Emotions I think are normal for just about everyone. I know I went through them. Lapband is just a tool, it's definately not a Fix all, so You definately need to know that upfront. It's not going to do the work for you.... at least initially....

I wouldn't be too concerned about the surgeon issue,

Just give it LOTS of thoughts, write a list of the pro's and cons... and pray about it... ( if u choose to).... I'm definately HAPPY that I did it... Does it have it's ups and downs,.... YES, but I think in the long run it will be worth it!!!

Good Luck!

Thank you for your practical words of encouragement!  Yes, I am a praying person, and God has listened to all my concerns, complaints, and anxious thoughts....and has reminded me how easily He made the process thus far....buttttt,  as you said -the Lapband is not a "Fix all", and He also reminds me, I have "free will" to either succeed or fail with the use of the tool.  Just typing this response to you has helped reaffirmed why I am doing this and how it is possible.  Thank you again.

Thank you so much for the encouragement....particularly since you seem to be familar with my doctor(s).  After my little anxious spell, I am once again committed and eagerly counting the days until my surgery this Friday!

One question though, what did you mean when you said " if Dr. TOM is going to georgetown you have no worries."  Just out of curiosity, are there changes going on?  I am on the far western end of the state, and out of the loop of happenings there in Central-Eastern KY. So, it is great to have someone like you that knows the latest.  haha

I know what you mean - I was totally confused and scared for like three years before I made a decision.  This is what worked for me - do all of your research - look into every weight loss surgery available - make sure you know what the the rules are for each of them - once you've made up your mind which surgery you want - find a surgeon you can trust.    I am telling you once I did those things and honestly thought about how I wanted to live the rest of my life, it was easy - I slept like a baby the night before my surgery and laid down on the OR table without a regret, still don't have one.

Research, research, research - and check out the revisions board - I learned alot over there from people who had been there done that.  They are happy and willing to share with their experiences.

Best wishes to you in making your decision.

Hugs, Vicki

I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you.  Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.  Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.
