Just starting
I am just beginning to get information and make the decision, but I am getting more and more confident about the surgery and how much I would love to get it. I am interested in the Lap Band. I would love to get some feedback about it versus the RNY.
I have called my insurance company (Humana) and it is covered so at least I have hope about being approved.
Thanks and I look forward to having a place to ask questions and get answers. Jena
Hi Jena:
The lap band patients in my surgeon's group have done PHENOMENOL. This one guy has lost 94 lbs in 3.5 months with the lap band!!!!!!!
I think the reasons one might choose the lap band over the Roux N Y are all individual. It depends on what kind of "eater" you are.
The way I have heard it explained, the lab band is the best option for those who aren't snackers and are more VOLUME eaters....meaning they eat a lot in one sitting versus snacking throughout the day or overeating on sweets.
For me, I was a sweets person and ate the WRONG kinds of foods (lots of fried foods, etc.) so I knew I needed the RNY because it would help hold me accountable. The lap band does NOT have the "dumping" side effect that you get with the RNY, which is a side effect because part of the intestines are bypassed. So, for some, that's a pro, but for me, I wanted to dump, so that I would NOT eat the sweet, fattening stuff that caused me to get fat in the first place.
So, it's all based on the individual. Your surgeon can help you decide which is best.
What surgeon are you using?
Good Luck!
